The Role of the Debate on the Authenticity of The Tale of Igor’s Campaign in the Emergence of a Revolutionary Direction in the Humanities
Among the sceptics who have considered The Tale of Igor’s Campaign an 18th-century forgery, three scholars provided the most scientifically grounded hypotheses. The first was the French Slavist André Mazon, whose arguments were thoroughly refuted by Roman Jakobson in 1948. Sobre a preparação e a proibição da edição russa da obra de Jan Mukařovský, organizada por Iuri Lótman e Oliég Maliévitch

Semiosphere and history
This article compares the approaches to the semiotics of history of two central figures of the Tartu-Moscow School of Semiotics – Juri Lotman and Boris Uspenskij. It is argued that Lotman’s approach to the semiotics of history is closely connected with the development of his theory of the semiosphere (despite Lotman’s unfailing interest in history, his theoretical interpretation of the historical process was, in fact, secondary to his reflection …
The Tartu-Moscow School of Semiotics
This paper seeks to situate the Tartu-Moscow School of Semiotics of the 1960– 1980s within the larger European intellectual-historical context from which it sprang, and in which it played a vital role. Analysing the school members’ engagement with their peers throughout Europe, we outline an “entangled history” (histoire croisée) of multi-directional scientific and philosophical influence. In this perspective, we discuss the most productive conce…
