    Olga V Alexeeva, Olga Alexeeva•ARTICLE•Hommes & migrations•2023

  • The Evolution of Sino-Russian Relations as Seen from Moscow: The Limits of Strategic Rapprochement

Olga Alexeeva, Frédéric Lasserre et al.•ARTICLE•Perspectives chinoises•2018

In the past few years, there has been a significant economic and political rapprochement between China and Russia, marked by the announcement of numerous trade agreements and investments in transport infrastructure and the exploitation of Russian natural resources. This cooperation seems to have intensified since the 2014 Ukrainian crisis. Some European and American media see it as a sign that China and Russia are developing a form of strategic a…

  • Experiencing War: Chinese Workers in Russia During the First World War

    Olga Alexeeva•ARTICLE•The Chinese Historical Review•2018•References: 2

Migration between China and Russia has a long and complex history. This migration was encouraged by the geographical proximity of the two countries, by the complementarity of their economies and by their intense political relations. With the outbreak of First World War, Russia was forced to resort to Chinese workers in order compensate for the shortage of labor caused by the military conscription of large numbers of Russian peasants and workers. …

  • China's strategy in the Arctic: Threatening or opportunistic

    Open Access•Frédéric Lasserre, Linyan Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Polar Record•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 20

In a context of rapid climatic change in the Arctic, the fast melting of permafrost, the decline of glaciers and the melting of sea ice created perceived strategic and economic opportunities for the littoral states. The attention of states beyond the region was also attracted. For example China, without direct access to the Arctic, displays an interest in Arctic research, natural resources, and shipping potential. However, its diplomatic, economi…

  • Is China's interest for the Arctic driven by Arctic shipping potential

Linyan Huang, Frédéric Lasserre et al.•ARTICLE•Asian Geographer•2014•Cited by: 4•References: 3

Interest from the Chinese government has been on the rise since about 2005, and the media have widely reported on these Chinese projects. China is often described as being very interested in both Arctic mineral resources and the opening of Arctic shipping routes, but in this characterization there is a hint of a perceived threat, as commentators are often stressing out that China's appetite may lead Beijing into considering the Northwest Passage …

    Olga Alexeeva•ARTICLE•Perspectives chinoises•2008
