  • The Index of Attitudes Toward Homosexuals

    Mandi L Pratt-Chapman, Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Journal of Homosexuality•2022•References: 8

The Index of Attitudes toward Homosexuals (IAH) was published by Hudson and Ricketts in 1980 as a unidimensional index to measure affective responses to homosexuals. Siebert et al. identified two factors in a sample of predominantly female social science students: Cognitive/Social Distance (α = .91) and Affective/Attraction-Advances (α = .79). The present study sought to conduct a factor analysis to confirm the factor structure of the IAH in a na…

  • Pervasive changes in stream intermittency across the United States

    Open Access•Samuel C Zipper, John C Hammond et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2021

Non-perennial streams are widespread, critical to ecosystems and society, and the subject of ongoing policy debate. Prior large-scale research on stream intermittency has been based on long-term averages, generally using annually aggregated data to characterize a highly variable process. As a result, it is not well understood if, how, or why the hydrology of non-perennial streams is changing. Here, we investigate trends and drivers of three inter…

  • Local Government Perspectives on Collaborative Governance

Open Access•Laurie Yoder, Alan Ramón Ward et al.•ARTICLE•Policy Studies Journal•2021•Cited by: 6•References: 35

Collaborative governance has been promoted for decades as a means to tackle complex water management problems worldwide. Yet, watershed based efforts often lack interdependent consequences that can motivate participation, given upstream–downstream asymmetries. Additionally, watershed collaborations often have limited legal authority to take action, which can be due to political conflicts. While local governments often participate in collaboration…

  • Enabling Resistance

    Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Angelaki•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 6

Homi Bhabha's attempts to recuperate Frantz Fanon's "black man" as a figure of resistance and subversion have relied on the simple fact of this figure's existence: because the black man's identity is irrevocably divided, Bhabha claims that its mere existence calls the unity of a normative identity into question. This essay broadly questions Bhabha's reading of Fanon by asking exactly how it is that the subject's potential for subversion can be re…

  • The subject of rebellion

    Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Postcolonial Studies•2015

This essay seeks to understand the tangible expectations that Frantz Fanon held for his calls to revolutionary action. Fanon’s references to the inevitability of focused subversive action in The Wretched of the Earth (1961), for instance, may easily strike one as wishful thinking given the difficulties of consensus and the intransigence of divergent political opinions. I argue, however, that Fanon’s vision is founded not on the expectation of a c…

  • Spivak's Derrida

    Open Access•Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Journal of AESTHETICS & CULTURE•2014•References: 1

This paper argues how it is that woman’s role and function within a global economy works in tandem with her own discursive inscription. By drawing on the work of Gayatri Spivak, it suggests a way in which Jacques Derrida’s discursive treatment of the figure of woman intersects with her material manifestation, her expected roles and functions. It finds that the figure of woman in Derrida’s work can be productively thought in conjunction with livin…

  • Sartre as Silent Partner

    Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Cultural Critique•2013•References: 1

  • An Interview With Hugo Blanco Galdos

    Alan Ramón Ward•ARTICLE•Interventions•2011

This interview was conducted in Spanish in Cuzco, Peru, on 8 April 2010. It delivers a brief history of the 1958–63 struggle for agrarian reform in the Cuzco region of Peru, from the perspective of one of its leaders. Hugo Blanco is reticent on the specifics of military strategy and emphasizes instead the necessity of adopting principles of indigeneity if political, social and ecological progress is to be made
