  • The Factor Structure of the Presence Questionnaire

Bob G Witmer, Christian J Jerome et al.•ARTICLE•PRESENCE Virtual and Augmented…•2005

Constructing a valid measure of presence and discovering the factors that contribute to presence have been much sought after goals of presence researchers and at times have generated controversy among them. This paper describes the results of principal-components analyses of Presence Questionnaire (PQ) data from 325 participants following exposure to immersive virtual environments. The analyses suggest that a 4-factor model provides the best fit …

  • Measuring Presence in Virtual Environments

    Bob G Witmer, Michael J Singer•ARTICLE•PRESENCE Virtual and Augmented…•1998•Cited by: 139•References: 1

The effectiveness of virtual environments (VEs) has often been linked to the sense of presence reported by users of those VEs. (Presence is defined as the subjective experience of being in one place or environment, even when one is physically situated in another.) We believe that presence is a normal awareness phenomenon that requires directed attention and is based in the interaction between sensory stimulation, environmental factors that encour…

  • A conceptual model for the enhancement of magnetic susceptibility in soils

    Open Access•Michael J Singer, Kenneth L Verosub et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•1996

  • Late Cenozoic stratigraphy of the Feather and Yuba rivers area, California, with a section on soil development in mixed alluvium at Honcut Creek

Alan J Busacca, Michael J Singer et al.•REPORT•1989

This series of reports, "Soil Chronosequences in the Western United States," attempts to integrate studies of different earth-science disciplines, including pedology, geomorphology, stratigraphy, and Quaternary geology in general. Each discipline provides information important to the others. From geomorphic relations we can determine the relative ages of deposits and soils; from stratigraphy we can place age constraints on the soils.Field investiga…

  • Operant Control of Alpha EEG and the Effects of Illumination and Eye Closure

    Jeffrey R Cram, Robert J Kohlenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1977

The effects of eyelid position (open or closed) and three levels of room illumination on operant control of alpha EEG were investigated utilizing a factorial design. After base-line levels were determined, subjects were given alpha-contingent feedback and instructed to increase and decrease alpha production during six successive 4-min intervals. In addition, a comparison was made between percent time and average amplitude as dependent measures. T…
