  • Geology of the Pleistocene volcano of Monte Amiata (Southern Tuscany, Italy)

Open Access•Concetta Principe, Luigina Vezzoli et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2024

Monte Amiata (305–231 ka; Italy) is an uncommon example of an entirely effusive silicic (mainly trachytic) composite volcano. A detailed geological map (1:25,000 scale) based on Unconformity Bounded Stratigraphic Unit criteria is presented accompanied by volcano-tectonic, stratigraphic relationship, and volcano evolution schemes. The volcanic facies analysis and structural analysis criteria have been applied to decipher Monte Amiata's geological …

  • Geology of El Hierro Southern Rift, Canary Islands, Spain

Open Access•Christopher Abis, Francesca Dajma et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2023

The geological survey has been carried out in El Hierro with the aim to produce a new Geological Map at 1:12,500 scale for the Southern Rift. Almost 70 km2 have been mapped providing a detailed stratigraphic and volcano-tectonic reconstruction of its evolution. Our work focused on the last Rift Volcanism phase, where hundreds of cinder cones, associated with thin lava flows, cover most of the island’s surface. Lava flows fields (40), monogenetic …

  • From Cogito to Covid

Molly A Wallace, Concetta Principe•BOOK•From Cogito to Covid•2022

  • Geological and Cultural Heritage

Open Access•Sonia La Felice, Tsegaye Abebe et al.•ARTICLE•Heritage•2019

We report on some recent experiences of scientific dissemination activities on geomaterials carried out by a network of scientific organizations in Tuscany (Italy). The primary message we want to disseminate is that even the most “insignificant” rock (e.g., those constituting the bar or kitchen counter-tops) stores in their interior very useful information beyond the beautiful colors and their aesthetic appearance. These rocks can tell stories of…

  • Volcanology of the Southwestern sector of Vesuvius volcano, Italy

Open Access•Annarita Paolillo, Concetta Principe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

Here we present a new volcanological map of the Southwestern portion of the Vesuvius volcano at a scale of 1:10,000. Mapped units were subdivided into Unconformity-Bounded Stratigraphic Units. This work constitutes a significant development with respect to previous maps, particularly for the medieval lavas. It also includes a series of volcanic–tectonic lineaments, which have never been reported in any of the previous cartographic works. Archeolo…

  • Spivak’s Fantasy of Silence

Concetta Principe, Concetta V Principe•ARTICLE•Journal for Cultural Research•2013

Gayatri Spivak's response to the attack of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2011, the event otherwise known as 9/11, was one of many responses that denote the event's traumatic impact. In psychoanalytic terms, the psychic condition of trauma, identified by Lacan as the encounter with the real, is a shock which the subject initially misses; as such, the subject is compelled to make intelligible what was missed through what Lacan calls 'fant…
