    This article shows that it is possible to identify a vessel from disarticulated ship remains missing their original depositional context. By studying a dispersed collection of timbers, fasteners, and hull sheathing from a previously unidentified shipwreck on the Gold Coast, Australia, the authors were able to identify the remains as most likely from the colonial schooner Heroine .     This article examines the archaeological timber remains from HMS Buffalo (built 1813), held in the Mercury Bay Museum, New Zealand, and the preserved hull of Edwin Fox (built 1853), sitting in dry dock in Picton, New Zealand.     This paper presents the author’s PhD research and explores the archaeological case study, Edwin Fox, to demonstrate changes in British East Indiaman ship design and construction during the mid-19th century.
