  • Permafrost-based geomorphology of the Mt. Foscagno - Mt. Forcellina ridge (Adda – Inn River basins, Central Italian Alps)

    Open Access•Mauro Guglielmin, M Bonasera et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2022

The permafrost-based geomorphological map of the Mt. Foscagno–Mt Forcellina ridge (Central Italian Alps) shows the distribution of permafrost probability (high, medium, low probability, and probable absence) obtained by the application of PERMACLIM (Guglielmin et al., 2003), a GIS-based model integrating Digital Elevation Model (DEM) topographic data and the Climatic DataBase (CDB) available from Automatic Weather Stations (AWS). In addition, the…

  • Mass Movement Processes and Landforms

    Open Access•F Dramis•CHAPTER•International Encyclopedia of…•2017

Mass movements may be defined as “downslope movements of rock, earth, or soil masses occurring when their resisting forces cannot resist gravitational stress.” The displacing mechanisms include: detachment by newly generated fractures or shear surfaces; fall in free air; sliding over newly generated shear surfaces whose shape is controlled by the mass structure; spreading over a softer subhorizontal material; flow over the slope surface or in a p…

  • Geology of the Tekeze River basin (Northern Ethiopia)

Open Access•Andrea Sembroni, Paola Molin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2017

We present a geologic map of the Tekeze River basin that covers an area of ∼69,000 km2 of northern Ethiopia. The map synthesizes new data collected in two campaigns between March, 2012 and January, 2013 and compiled at a scale of 1:500,000 with published geologic surveys. The map focuses on the main geologic and tectonic features relevant to a modern interpretation of the geologic evolution of northern Ethiopia and as such, it represents an impor…

  • Geomorphological Map of the Ionian Area between the Trionto and Colognati River Catchments (Calabria, Italy)

Open Access•Gaetano Robustelli, Federica Lucá et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2009

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. This paper describes a geomorphological map representing a sector of the Ionian coastal belt, located in north-eastern Calabria, between the catchments of the Trionto and Colognati Rivers. The landforms have been distinguished according to their origin into: a) structural and tectonic-controlled landforms; b) gravity-induced landforms; c) landforms formed by running water; d) coa…

  • GIS Methodology to Assess Landslide Susceptibility

Open Access•Gabriele Leoni, Fabrizio Barchiesi et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2009

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. This paper illustrates a geographic information system (GIS) supported methodology for the assessment of landslide susceptibility. The methodology involves four operational steps: survey, site analysis, macroarea analysis and susceptibility analysis. The Survey includes the production (or acquisition) of a large-scale litho-technical map, a large-scale geomorphological map, a det…

  • Holocene climate phases from buried soils in Tigray (northern Ethiopia)

Open Access•F Dramis, Mohammed Umer et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2003

Stratigraphic analysis of alluvial/colluvial sequences and 14 C dating have been used as proxies for Holocene climate changes in the highlands of Tigray (northern Ethiopia). The studied records show alternations of buried soils and peaty–clayey sediments, pointing to wet, stabilization phases, and organic-free colluvium layers resulting from the abrupt occurrence of dry-climate episodes. The 14 C dates, mostly unpublished, cluster in the 11,090–9…
