A New Era in Preschool Education: The Effects of Covid-19 on Children and on the Pedagogical Practice
The COVID-19 pandemic triggered changes that continue to impact the everyday practice of preschool education and the physical and psychological well-being of children. More than five years have passed since the start of the 2020 pandemic; therefore, beyond the description of the acute crisis period, the study outlines post-pandemic phenomena from the viewpoint of preschool teachers. The calling contour in Hungarian and English
This article examines the calling contour (CC) in Hungarian and systematically compares its formal properties with those of its English counterpart. After a critical survey of the literature on the English CC, it carries out a phonological analysis of the Hungarian CC, offering a plausible representation based on that analysis. This contains a H pitch accent (H*) and a downstepped H phrase tone (!H-), corresponding to the first and second terrace…
The intonation of monosyllabic Hungarian yes-no questions
The paper examines the intonation of monosyllabic Hungarian yes-no questions, which, according to the literature, is different from the intonation of polysyllabic Hungarian yes-no questions. The paper's conclusion is that the difference is only phonetic, not phonological. From a phonological point of view, such questions carry a rising-falling intonation pattern, just like their polysyllabic counterparts. This is proved by the facts of contour co…

Rhythmical variation in Hungarian
The kinds of rhythmical variation I will examine in this paper can be observed in some double-accented Hungarian words, and can be exemplified by the changes that the stressing of the numeric compound ′tizen′három ‘thirteen’ may undergo when it is embedded in phrases. The stressing of this word may become tizen ′ három in the phrase ′ pont tizen′három ‘exactly thirteen’ and ′ tizen′három in the phrase ′ tizen′három ′ pont ‘thirteen points’. The t…
