Sustaining Attention to Sustainability, Health, and Well-Being in Urban Regeneration
In urban regeneration projects, balancing environmental, social, and economic aspects is crucial but challenging, often leading to mission drift when team focus deviates from the original goals. Through a case study of regeneration projects at a large U.K. housing association, we explore decision makers’ attention to sustainability, health, and well-being as core elements of social mission. We combined qualitative analysis with an examination of …
Emerging from Covid-19: Lessons for Action on Climate Change and Health in Cities
The COVID-19 pandemic has required health protection responses with far-reaching consequences for society, livelihoods, and the wider economy. Collaborative working in health and social care: Lessons learned from post‐hoc preliminary findings of a young families’ pregnancy to age 2 project in South Wales, United Kingdom
Children of young and socially disadvantaged parents are more likely to experience adverse outcomes. In response to this, a unique young families' project in Swansea, UK, was created, which drew together a team of multi-agency professionals, to support people aged 16-24 from 17 weeks of pregnancy throughout 1,001 days of the child's life. The aim of the JIGSO (the Welsh word for Jigsaw) project is for young people to reach their potential as pare…

Constructing Mental Health Services for Looked after Children
Recent years have seen a welcome series of government measures aimed at meeting the mental health needs of looked after children. However, as Eddy Street and Mike Davies argue in this paper, there remains a clear lack of integration of models of ‘good practice’ among childcare and mental health professionals. Taking into consideration the ‘tiered model’ recommended by the NHS Health Advisory Service report (1995), the authors advocate a developme…
Assessing and Matching Foster Care Relationships: An Interactional Framework
Eddy Street and Mike Davies explore ideas behind the current typical professional response to the placement of children in foster care and its breakdown. They discuss theories of family functioning in terms of their relevance to the assessment of the fostering relationship and outline a model of assessment based on the theory of Behavioural Exchange, which uses checklists for children and questionnaires for adults. Using clinical examples, they g…
