This paper explores how technologists, lawyers and librarians in the United States are complicating the social relations of the book as they attempt to navigate around and through the constraint of copyright in the pursuit of an online future for books. This editorial looks at the opening up of intellectual property and copyright to the world and encourages anthropologists to pay attention to the way their implementation evolves across the various communities where these issues tend to be vernacularized based on local concerns
The influence of gun control laws on personal violence
The handgun control statutes of the continental states of the USA in 1966 were coded and scaled for strictness, and strictness was found to be unrelated to the incidence of homicide (by any method) in 1960 and 1970. However, states with the stricter handgun control statutes were found to have lower suicide rates by firearm and lower suicide rates overall.

Pilot studies indicated that taller females obtained higher scores on a measure of the Type A personality found in those prone to heart attacks and that both males and females showed an association between height and ectomorph~ scores, with taller subjects being more ectomorphi~.~ The present study was designed to replicate these pilot data and to see whether self-esteem mediated the relationship between height and ectomorphy.
