  • The use of campus based field teaching to provide an authentic experience to all students

Julie Peacock, Ruth Mewis et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Geography in Higher…•2018•Cited by: 8•References: 9

Fieldwork is an important part of undergraduate degrees in Geography and has been shown to be an effective pedagogic strategy. Fieldtrips are often to remote locations, both residential and shorter day trips. For institutions, field trips can be costly in terms of money and staff time and difficult to timetable. Some students may have difficulty attending due to caring commitments or employment. For some, going to a novel environment to learn new…

  • Drought Sensitivity of the Amazon Rainforest

    Open Access•Oliver L Phillips, Luiz Eduardo O C Aragão et al.•ARTICLE•Science•2009

Amazon forests are a key but poorly understood component of the global carbon cycle. If, as anticipated, they dry this century, they might accelerate climate change through carbon losses and changed surface energy balances. We used records from multiple long-term monitoring plots across Amazonia to assess forest responses to the intense 2005 drought, a possible analog of future events. Affected forest lost biomass, reversing a large long-term car…
