    Jane Thomson•ARTICLE•Australian Social Work•2007•Cited by: 4•References: 8

Child protection workers are key players in the statutory system for the protection of children and young people. For this reason, their perceptions of the operation of the system are important. This study, conducted in Queensland, Australia, explored the views of child protection workers regarding foster carers and the foster care system. The present study revealed the difficulties the child protection workers encountered in engaging with foster…

This is despite the fact that it is parents' ability to afford protection that is at issue. The paper proceeds to discuss what is meant by empowerment in the…

  • Forward to the Past

    Jane Thomson•ARTICLE•Asia Pacific Journal of Social…•1997•References: 1

In this paper I briefly outline my Ph.D. findings, which led me to make a call for a renewed commitment to collective practice approaches. I argue that social work has suffered from a trend towards decontextualizing and technologizing practice. I assert that social work needs to reclaim and revalue the importance of materiality as a framework for understanding people's experience, both service users and social workers
