  • Soil Nutrients and Host Filtering Jointly Shape Distinct Endophytic Bacterial Assemblages in Tropical Island Shrubs Across the South China Sea

Open Access•Yanfei Sun, Zongrui Lai et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

Archipelagos in extreme climates offer ideal systems for studying species adaptations to harsh environments. Previously, properties of island soil microbial communities such as structures, diversities, and functions were under the main attentions. Nevertheless, how island edaphic properties shape endophytic bacterial assemblages in native shrubs and how these bacterial communities differentiate across neighboring islands remain poorly understood.…

  • Zonation of Landslide Susceptibility in Ruijin, Jiangxi, China

Open Access•Xiaoting Zhou, Weicheng Wu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

Landslides are one of the major geohazards threatening human society. The objective of this study was to conduct a landslide hazard susceptibility assessment for Ruijin, Jiangxi, China, and to provide technical support to the local government for implementing disaster reduction and prevention measures. Machine learning approaches, e.g., random forests (RFs) and support vector machines (SVMs) were employed and multiple geo-environmental factors su…

  • Mapping Landslide Hazard Risk Using Random Forest Algorithm in Guixi, Jiangxi, China

Open Access•Yang Zhang, Weicheng Wu et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2020

Landslide hazards affect the security of human life and property. Mapping the spatial distribution of landslide hazard risk is critical for decision-makers to implement disaster prevention measures. This study aimed to predict and zone landslide hazard risk, using Guixi County in eastern Jiangxi, China, as an example. An integrated dataset composed of 21 geo-information layers, including lithology, rainfall, altitude, slope, distances to faults, …

  • Analyzing Social Safety Net and Employment Assistance Spending in Chinese Cities (对中国城市中社会保障和就业援助支出的分析)

    Open Access•Alfred Tat‐kei Ho, Tao Lang•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Public…•2013•Cited by: 1•References: 1

As social harmony and stability become increasingly important to the Chinese policymakers, how to use government spending to help the unemployed and needy population becomes a key task. Unlike many western countries, China pursues a highly decentralized policy in social safety net and employment assistance spending. This paper explores the advantages and challenges of this fiscal arrangement, and uses data of about 330 Chinese cities between 2007…

  • Taxation and economic performance

Open Access•Joyce Yanyun Man, Xinye Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2011•References: 8

This paper empirically tests the effects of taxation on economic performance using prefectural level city and county data from China. Results based on cross-sectional data from over 200 prefectural cities in 2007 indicate that overall tax burden and tax structure affect economic performance. Specifically, tax burden has a negative correlation with economic activities. Empirical results from the analysis of disaggregated local data for over 2,000 …
