Economic impacts of tourism demand on the European food and accommodation industry
Sustainability strategies have become central topics in the literature on tourism development, given the significant increase in tourism demand in Europe. This study examines the economic (cost) impact of increased tourism demand on the European Food and Accommodation Industry. We employed three distinct models — pooled linear regression, flexible nonparametric, and semiparametric smooth coefficients — using data spanning European countries from …
Intentions of housing developers to reuse wood materials in buildings
The environmental impacts of the construction industry can be decreased by enhancing material circularity. This study explored the psychological factors that influence the intention of housing developers to use recycled wood materials in construction projects. A cross‐sectional survey ( n = 138) was conducted in the fall of 2022 in southern Norway. A conceptual model was developed and tested to integrate the theory of planned behavior and institu…
Willingness to pay for fast-track tickets in the alpine skiing industry
We evaluate a fast-track ticket alternative in the alpine skiing industry using data from a survey of skiers at a major ski resort in Norway. We estimate price-response functions, optimal prices for fast-track tickets and use regression to analyse the most important characteristics of skiers who demand the fast-track ticket alternative.our findings show that the additional willingness to pay for a fast-track ticket over the standard day-pass ticke…
How can children best learn map skills? a step-by-step approach
This study contributes to our understanding of children's development of map-reading skills through a systematic 'step-bystep approach'.Utilising an ecological research design, we investigated how children perceive and utilise maps in a largescale outdoor environment.A total of 156 children, aged 5-11 (both boys and girls), participated in the study, tasked with locating ten controls in the terrain using five different types of maps. The study mea…
Optimal pricing of alpine ski passes in the case of crowdedness and reduced skiing capacity
In this paper, we estimate price-response functions for a ski resort using a conjoint framework. The analysis is based on survey data from 350 skiers at a large ski resort in the inland region of Norway. The results suggest that the waiting time at the main lifts (crowdedness) and the proportion of slopes open affect the optimal (profit-maximizing) price the ski resort should charge for a one-day ski pass. The results of this study support previo…

How Should Governments Make Risky Policy Decisions
Public policy‐making does not follow the long‐established and well‐recognised principles of rational decision analysis under risk. Public views of risk are often inconsistent and seemingly irrational, and a gulf exists between risk perceptions and attitudes of the public and those of ‘experts’. On the other hand, experts often claim unjustifiably high levels of confidence in their predictions of policy choice outcomes, creating a lack of public f…
