Impacts of built environment and emerging green technologies on daily transportation greenhouse gas emissions in Quebec cities: A disaggregate modeling approach
Does Quebec Have the Right Gasoline Tax? An Empirical Investigation
The objective of this article is to calculate the optimal gasoline tax for Quebec and, in particular, for its two largest urban areas: the Greater Montreal Area (GMA) and the Greater Quebec City Area (GQA). This optimal tax accounts for externalities resulting from traffic congestion, road accidents, local air pollution, and climate change. Our methodology draws on Parry's (2009) theoretical model, which we calibrate with parameters for the Quebe…
Gasoline Prices and Fuel Economy of New Vehicles in Quebec
We evaluate the short-run impact of gasoline prices on new vehicles registrations by fuel economy between 2002 and 2008 in the province of Quebec. We find that a gasoline price increase stimulates registration of new vehicles with a fuel consumption rate below 8.65L/100km (27.2 MPG) while it lowers those of vehicles above that limit. While the impact is modest for most vehicles, large gasoline price fluctuations lead to noticeable changes in the …
Reducing Automobile Dependency on Campus Using Transport Demand Management: A Case Study for Quebec City
In this article we evaluate the impacts of travel demand management strategies to reduce the share of automobiles as a commuting mode by using stated preference data. The analysis is carried out on university members in Quebec City. We measure the impact of travel time and cost as well as attitudes toward automobiles, transit, and the environment. We find elasticities with respect to time and cost that are low, implying that large changes in the …
Traveled distance, stock and fuel efficiency of private vehicles in Canada: Price elasticities and rebound effect
Sulphur emissions and productivity growth in industrialised countries
In this paper, we examine the relationship between economic and environmental performance. More specifically, we analyse the impact of SO2 reduction in the eighties (1980–1992) on productivity growth, technical efficiency and technological progress for a set of 12 OECD countries. Our timeframe roughly corresponds to the adoption and implementation of the First Sulphur Protocol signed in 1985. First, we estimate an output based Malmquist productiv…
