  • A First Look at Ontario’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Program

    Can Erutku•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2020•Cited by: 2•References: 1

This article provides a first look at Ontario’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Program, which was designed to support the adoption of plug-in electric vehicles, reward early adopters, and stimulate market demand. Under this program, the Ontario government offered financial incentives to plug-in electric vehicle buyers. Although the market share of plug-in electric vehicles in Ontario followed an upward trend, it remained below 1 percent of the new ca…

  • Carbon Tax at the Pump in British Columbia and Quebec

Can Erutku, Vincent A Hildebrand et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2018•References: 1

British Columbia and Quebec introduced a carbon tax on the sale of retail gasoline in July 2008 and October 2007, respectively. This amplified response might have been the consequence of a constant carbon tax after July 2012. In comparison, we find weak evidence that the …

  • The Effects of Post-Katrina Gasoline Price Regulations

    Can Erutku•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2017•References: 1

I test for the effects on retail gasoline prices of a price regulation introduced in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in July 2006. Using a difference-in-differences empirical model, I find that prices decreased (relative to the control group) only in New Brunswick after the regulation's introduction. Further analysis suggests that prices could also have decreased in Nova Scotia if the regulation in that province had been better designed

  • Les prix élevés de l'essence avant les longues fins de semaine

    Can Erutku•ARTICLE•Canadian Public Policy•2007

Some consumers believe that the retail price of gasoline increases before long holiday weekends. In this study, we seek to verify whether or not this perception is justified, and we attempt to explain our results. We have recorded the retail price of gasoline on Thursdays and Fridays in 11 Canadian cities over a period of four years. Although our procedure differs from that adopted by the Conference Board (2001) in an earlier study, we arrive at …
