  • Introduction à la géographie humaine

  • Individual Cognition of Urban Neighbourhoods over Space and Time

Open Access•Hubert Béguin, Leiva Romero et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1996•Cited by: 2•References: 42

This paper is aimed at assessing how far an individual-level analysis can contribute to our knowledge of neighbourhood familiarity over space and time. An appropriate theoretical framework and a careful methodology (with special attention to variable control and measurement problems) are used to gain new insights into processes of neighbourhood cognition. Although classical results are corroborated at the aggregate level, specific results are der…

  • Weight Variations within a Set of Demand Points, and Location-Allocation Issues

Open Access•Hubert Béguin, Iris Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1992•Cited by: 1•References: 13

The purpose in this paper is to explore the consequences of weight variations in a given set of demand points on the following p-median results: the average and maximum distance between demand and supply, the geographical pattern of supply points, and the amount allocated to every supply site. By using a real-world case study (intraurban location of public libraries), two different estimations of demand associated with the same set of demand and …

  • The Location of Fire Stations in a Rural Environment

Open Access•D Richards, Denis Richard et al.•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1990•Cited by: 2•References: 10

In this paper an application of location-allocation modelling to an emergency service is presented. This study differs in two aspects from earlier work because it covers two neglected fields: (1) it is concerned with a rural environment whereas most case studies are about urban areas; (2) it is a comparison of the performance of several models instead of using only one. Efficiency as well as equity are taken into account. The main conclusions are…

  • IGU working group on mathematical models ? Newletter No. 1 ? Feb., 1985

    Open Access•Hubert Béguin, Ross D Mackinnon•ARTICLE•GeoJournal•1985

  • The Shape of City-Size Distributions in a Central Place System

    Open Access•Hubert Béguin•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1984•Cited by: 2•References: 17

The purpose of the paper is to provide an explanation for the shape of city-size distributions in the context of a central place system. Under given assumptions, a model is presented relating this distribution to individual labour productivity and individual consumption pattern. Simulation results show how variations in productivity and consumption explain the slope and curvature (primacy, convexity, S-shape) of city-size distributions

  • The Measurement of Relationships between Regional Structure and its Evolution

    Open Access•Hubert Béguin•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•1980•References: 20

Using a regional case study, the paper investigates some methodological problems concerning the measure of the relationships between two sets of variables. Canonical analysis seems a good tool, but discussion of its advantages and drawbacks shows it is not fully satisfactory. Other methods are tested and their efficiency discussed: Regression, joint-set component analysis, canonical-subspace interpretation by communalities, component-based redund…
