Within a few years four books on South India have appeared written by Swedish scholars. This is exceptional since South India generally speaking, despite its age-old culture, is a neglected field of research and enquiry. Scandinavian scholars have a long and honourable record in the study of Asian cultures, and this effort to expand into the area of Dravidian studies is one which should be welcomed and noticed
