  • Testing the Long-Term Effects of the Go Sun Smart Worksite Health Communication Campaign

    Open Access•Peter A Andersen, David B Buller et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Communication•2008

This study examined the long-term effects of the Go Sun Smart (GSS) campaign, a large-scale health communication intervention designed to promote sun safety to employees at 26 ski areas in western North America. Employees were enrolled in a pair-matched group-randomized pretest-posttest controlled design with 2 follow-up surveys. Half of the ski areas were randomly assigned to implement GSS in the winter. This article reports analyses of a hierar…

  • Interpersonal Perception Between Intimates an Integrative Review

    Open Access•Alan L Sillars, Alan Sillars et al.•ARTICLE•Human Communication Research•1983•Cited by: 62•References: 21

Despite the considerable importance often attributed to interpersonal perception between married partners, family members, and other intimates, there have been few theoretical developments that address the distinctive factors affecting perception in these contexts. This article draws upon a broad literature review to suggest how interpersonal perception between intimates may be affected by such factors as familiarity, emotionality, behavioral int…

  • Student Learning as a Relational Outcome of Teacher-Student Interaction

    Jon F Nussbaum, Michael D Scott•ARTICLE•Annals of the International…•1980•Cited by: 2•References: 6

This study investigates student/teacher solidarity as a factor mediating the relationship between an instructor's communicative behavior and student learning. Differing degrees of student/teacher solidarity are found to affect the amount of student affective, behavioral, and cognitive learning. In addition, an instructor's communication style is found to contribute to the degree of student/teacher solidarity within the student/teacher relationshi…

  • Instructor Communication Behaviors and Their Relationship to Classroom Learning

    Jon F Nussbaum, Michael D Scott•ARTICLE•Annals of the International…•1979•References: 12

This study assessed the relationship between perceived instructor communication behaviors—i.e., communicator style, disclosiveness, and interpersonal solidarity—and classroom learning. It was found that the preceding variables were substantially and positively associated with student affect and behavioral intent, but negatively associated with cognitive learning. Hypothesis one, predicting a linear combination of communicator style and disclosive…

  • Measuring Communication Apprehension

    Open Access•Michael D Scott, James C Mccroskey et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Communication•1978

A scale with face validity for measuring oral communication apprehension in the organizational setting was generated and found to have adequate internal reliability, concurrent validity with the PRCA, and predictive validity in the organizational environment

  • Communication Apprehension, Intelligence, and Achievement Among Secondary School Students

    Gary F Davis, Michael D Scott•ARTICLE•Annals of the International…•1978•Cited by: 1•References: 6

This study investigated the impact of communication apprehension and intelligence on achievement, as well as the relationships among these variables. Two hypotheses were tested and one research question was explored. Hypothesis 1, which predicted that levels of communication apprehension and intelligence were linearly related, was confirmed. Hypothesis 2, which predicted that low communication apprehensives would exhibit significantly higher IQ s…

  • The Effects of Communication Apprehension and Test Anxiety on Three Indicants of Achievement in an Alternative System of Instruction

    Michael D Scott, Lawrence R Wheeless et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the International…•1977•References: 3

On the basis of the findings and weaknesses of an earlier exploratory study, this investigation assessed the effects of communication apprehension and test anxiety on three indices of achievement in an alternative system of instruction. An hypothesized relationship predicting a significant correlation between a linear combination of communication apprehension and test anxiety, and a linear combination of the three indices of achievement, was conf…
