Opportunity beyond the first 1000 days
Health inequalities often originate in early childhood, but millions of children miss the critical intervention window of the first 1000 days of life. We investigate whether nutritional investments during the school years can help these children recover. To do so, we analyze China’s Nutrition Improvement Program (NIP), the world’s third-largest school feeding program. Using nationally representative longitudinal data from 2010 to 2018 and differe…

This study tested whether information on positive food additives and negative food additives had an effect on consumers' risk perception and their willingness to accept (WTA) food with additives. Consumers' WTA was examined via a random n th-price auction of exchanging freshly squeezed orange juice without additives for orange juice with additives. Results show that consumers' WTA differs with the order in which information was provided. Consumer…
Will China's demographic transition exacerbate its income inequality?–CGE modeling with top-down microsimulation
Demographic transition due to population aging is an emerging trend throughout the developing world, and it is especially acute in China, which has undergone demographic transition more rapidly than have most industrial economies. This paper quantifies the distributional effects in the context of demographic transition using an integrated recursive dynamic computable general equilibrium model with top-down behavioral microsimulation. The results …
Situation features and governance structure of farmer cooperatives in China
The paper explores the effects of situation features on the governance structure types (GSTs) of farmer cooperatives in China. The "Situation–Structure" analytical framework is used to understand the relationship between situation features and governance structures in the field of industry economics. Four categories of GSTs of cooperatives are identified, i.e., common farmer-led, rural elite-led, enterprise-led, and related organization-led. The …

Sticky factors in the industrial relocation of a cluster
The traditional industrial relocation theories hold that there are industrial relocations between areas with different levels of economic development. However, we found a significant gap between the theory and reality of industrial relocation in Zhejiang province of China. To analyze this phenomenon, the paper explores reasons for the tardiness of industrial relocation on the basis of literature review and survey. Taking the children's garments i…
