  • Elevated Expression of Serotonin 5-HT2A Receptors in the Rat Ventral Tegmental Area Enhances Vulnerability to the Behavioral Effects of Cocaine

    Open Access•David V Herin, Marcy J Bubar et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2013

The dopamine mesocorticoaccumbens pathway which originates in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and projects to the nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex is a circuit important in mediating the actions of psychostimulants. The function of this circuit is modulated by the actions of serotonin (5-HT) at 5-HT(2A) receptors (5-HT(2A)R) localized to the VTA. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that virally mediated overexpression of 5-HT(2…

  • Employment patterns of Hispanic high school graduates without college experience

Open Access•Philip T Ganderton, Richard Santos et al.•ARTICLE•The Social Science Journal•2002

This study uses longitudinal data from the High School and Beyond Surveys (1980–1986) to construct employment patterns over a 6-year-period for graduates who did not attend college. Hispanic graduates are highlighted because less is known about their employment status upon finishing high school. Most of the high school graduates worked continuously following graduation and periods of not being in the labor force were more common than unemployment…

  • Attitudes of Hispanics and Anglos Surrounding a Workforce Diversity Intervention

    Open Access•Jacqueline N Hood, Helen J Muller et al.•ARTICLE•Hispanic Journal of Behavioral…•2001•Cited by: 2•References: 19

Organizations increasingly make use of diversity training programs to develop a climate of acceptance and cooperation, yet the effectiveness of these interventions is unclear. This study examines changes in attitudes of Hispanic and Anglo men and women before and after an intervention that focused on diversity competency. Results reveal that attitudes toward diversity differ by racioethnic gender group at the start of the intervention and that at…

  • Outside Ownership and Workers' Earnings and Tenure

    Open Access•Randy Hodson, Patricia Seitz et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Quarterly•1988•Cited by: 2•References: 18

Increasing aggregate concentration in the economy has increased attention to the issues surrounding the outside ownership of enterprises. Outside ownership entails both industrial diversification and various forms of conglomerate ownership and represents an important new direction for studies of economic sociology and labor market segmentation. The article shows that the influence of four measures of outside ownership on worker's earnings and ten…
