  • A Genetic Study on The Dalu of Meghalaya

Open Access•P Borthakur, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1997

The present genetic study was conducted among the Dalu individuals of Meghalaya. The genetic traits reported here include ABO blood groups. Rh factor. PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness. The present findings have been compared with the neighbouring populations

  • A Genetic Study on the Lyngam of Meghalaya

Open Access•Tabris Jalal Ahmed, Sarthak Sengupta et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Ecology•1997

On the basis of ABO blood groups, Rh factor, PTC taste sensitivity and colour blindness it is suggested that the Lyngam seems to be ethnically a distinct population. The present findings are discussed in detail in the light of available data on the neighbouring allied groups of Meghalaya, India

  • Distribution of the number of heterozygous loci in the Kota population of Nilgiri hills of India and estimation of average heterozygosity

    Open Access•R Chakraborty, A K Ghosh et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1981

From an electrophoretic survey of 17 protein enzyme loci in seven Kota villages of the Nilgiri Hills, Madras region of South India, the distribution of the number of heterozygous loci is computed. It is demonstrated that the mean of this distribution provides an alternative estimate of the average heterozygosity in an individual per locus which does not make use of the assumptions of linkage equilibrium and random mating. Since the Kotas practise…

  • The Trend of the Birth Rate in India, 1911-50

    Attreyee Ghosh•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1956•References: 1

In an earlier paper on the trend of the birth rate in West Bengal (Population Studies, vol. ix, no. 3, March 1956) the author developed a method for the correction of registered data on births and deaths. In this paper the method used previously in correcting West Bengal returns has been extended to the provinces of Assam, Bihar, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, and it has been shown that it gives satisfactory results. The only provinces…

  • A Study of Demographic Trends in West Bengal during 1901-1950

    Attreyee Ghosh•ARTICLE•Population Studies•1956•Cited by: 2

From time to time attempts have been made to determine the trends of fertility of the Indian population. Actuarial analyses which have been undertaken in this connection, published in the Census Reports and elsewhere2 are admitted to be in the nature of makeshifts. The difficulty with such reconstructions is that while they may adequately represent the trends and tendencies in a fairly homogenous region or, over a short period of time, they may b…
