The drivers and the barriers of incoming remittance flows in Europe
The paper compiles a Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood econometric model aiming at detecting and assessing the drivers and the barriers of incoming remittance flows in Europe. The analysis focuses on 297 NUTS 2 level regions and covers the period 2010–2018. For the needs of the analysis, the paper compiles a dataset with interregional remittance flows “regionalising” the corresponding country-level data. The findings of the paper offer substantia…
Following Old Routes in New Times
Since the end of February 2022, most European Union countries have experienced a substantial inflow of refugees from Ukraine. The pace and scale of this movement are unprecedented. In some countries, such as Poland, this inflow has coincided with the presence of economic migrants who had arrived prior to the outbreak of the war. This article examines the spatial relationships between the inflow of Ukrainian refugees and (i) distance from the Ukra…
Zanim nadeszła nuda. Dynamika odbioru treści kulturalnych w czasie pandemii
Analiza …

Refugees from Ukraine in Poland—Differentiation of spatial distribution and impact on demographic structures
In late February 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine set‐off a tide of refugees heading west. The paper discusses the scale of the refugee flow into Poland, its distribution patterns and its influence on existing demographic structures (both captured at a local LAU 1 scale). By studying refugee flows at three time‐points, the study, on the one hand, offers a dynamic analysis and, on the other, identifies the spatial patterns behind the movement…
Ruch graniczny z Polski do Obwodu Kaliningradzkiego na tle pozostałych odcinków zewnętrznej granicy Unii Europejskiej
The purpose of the paper is to present the cross-border mobility of Poles in a broader context of social, economic changes and formal and political conditions. The mobility of Poles is presented on the example of border traffic on the Polish-Russian border. We compare the situation on the border with Kaliningrad oblast with other sections of the eastern border. We focus on number of crossings and the movement of passenger and heavy good vehicles …
Acting for the Local Community
This article focuses on the innovative methodology used to collect data. We describe how we have utilized the diary method and what analytical potential it contains. We also flag the limitations we have perceived during the research. At the same time, so as not to refrain entirely from a discussion of the study findings, we recreate selected shared attributes in the careers of culture animators. A hybrid research method was used to report and int…
Delineation of health care deserts using accessibility measures
The designation of peripheral areas with poor access to health care services is a key criterion for possible support from various targeted programmes or strategies. The proper delineation of the periphery relies on many factors, including (1) the accessibility measure adopted (proximity approach, population percentage, cumulative accessibility, potential accessibility and accessibility measure with competition); (2) the type of medical service (p…
Accessibility of public services in the age of ageing and shrinking population
This paper investigates the characteristics and functional-demographic diversity of municipalities in Poland that use spatial data. It answers the question about the relationship between accessibility to services of general interest (SGI; public administration, child-care, educational, medical, and cultural services) in municipalities and their demographic conditions. Demographic literature devotes much space to demographic transformations in the…
The Interactive Dimension of Creating Cultural Artifacts Using Agile Methodologies
The authors consider symbolic interactionism to be a suitable theoretical framework to analyze projects in creative sectors because it affords ample space for individual and collective creativity. Furthermore, teams working on different cultural artifacts establish a negotiated order (interactionist term coined by A. L. Strauss) among artists, managers, the audience, and sponsors, et cetera, by discussing and translating various meanings and pers…
Etniczny wymiar depopulacji w Rosji w ujęciu regionalnym
The paper addresses the issue of depopulation in Russia, especially the ethnic aspect of this process considering the regional approach. Two essential aspects of depopulation were discussed i.e., the quantitative aspect resulting from the rate of natural increase or decrease and migration, as well as the qualitative aspect exerting impact on changes in the number of ethnic groups, namely the shift in ethnic self-identification. The analysis was c…
