Employee Assistance Programs
Employee assistance programs (EAPs) are employer‐sponsored services designed for assisting employees with personal, family, or work problems. Most workplaces today have an EAP, as over 80% of medium and large size employers in the United States provide EAP benefits to their workforce. EAPs play an important role in helping troubled employees to balance the demands of work and personal life, while also supporting the employer's goals for improved …

This study confirmed a hypothesis from the Emotion-in-Relationships conceptual model, which predicts that greater interdependence between relationship partners-or closeness-creates the potential for jealousy. The study also sought to better define the positive side of romantic jealousy in addition to its more negative attributes. College students in premarital relationships ( N = 229) completed a questionnaire, including 27 different measures and…
Dependency and insecurity in romantic relationships
This article presents self‐report scales for the assessment of perceived dependency and insecurity in a romantic relationship. These scales were originally developed many years ago (Fei & Berscheid, 1977) but were never published. The process of original scale development is summarized, and results from five studies (total N = 1,283; including data from the original Fei & Berscheid studies) are presented showing evidence for (a) scale reliability…
Predicting relationship stability from both partners versus one
This study investigated whether longitudinal predictions of stability are improved when assessments of the relationship are obtained from both members of the couple rather than just from 1 partner and, if so, which partner's assessments are the most diagnostic of stability. Both partners in 120 dating couples provided self-report assessments on 16 relationship dimensions, and 6 months later 2 outcomes were examined: stability and emotional distre…
