  • Development trajectories of undergraduates’ interdisciplinary competence over time

Gaoxia Zhu, Tianlong Zhong et al.•ARTICLE•Higher Education Research &…•2026

Considering the importance of cultivating interdisciplinary competence, higher education institutions have developed programs, courses and activities to engage students in interdisciplinary learning. However, what remains underexplored is whether students’ interdisciplinary competence can develop in these settings and which activity designs may be more effective. To address this gap, this study employed a quasi-experiment design involving 130 und…

  • The effects of critical thinking intervention on reliance behaviors, problem-solving quality, and creativity during human-Generative AI collaborative learning

    Open Access•Chenyu Hou, Gaoxia Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Computers & Education•2026

As Generative AI becomes increasingly used in various educational contexts, understanding how students engage with these tools during collaborative problem-solving is critical. While prior research suggests that critical thinking is essential in human-AI problem-solving, few studies have examined how instructional interventions, targeting critical thinking, might shape their reliance behaviors and collaborative outcomes. This study investigates t…

  • Temporal dynamics of psychosocial risk and resilience pathways in adolescent depressive and anxiety symptoms

Open Access•Jijun Zhu, Wei Gao et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2026

Adolescence is a critical neurodevelopmental stage marked by heightened sensitivity to psychosocial influences and increased risk for emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety. Although multiple psychosocial risk and protective factors have been identified, their interrelations and temporal patterning remain insufficiently understood, especially in Chinese populations. We analyzed three-wave longitudinal data from 907 junior high school …

  • Measuring undergraduate students' reliance on Generative AI during problem-solving

    Open Access•Chenyu Hou, Gaoxia Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Computers & Education•2025

  • The role of critical thinking on undergraduates' reliance behaviours on generative AI in problem‐solving

Open Access•Chenyu Hou, Gaoxia Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•2025

There is a heightened concern over undergraduate students being over‐reliant on Generative AI and using it recklessly. Reliance behaviours describe the frequencies and ways that people use AI tools for tasks such as problem‐solving, influenced by individual factors such as trust and AI literacy. One way to conceptualise reliance is that reliance behaviours are affected by the extent to which learners consciously evaluate the relative performance …

  • The relationship between gender identity and depressive symptoms in adolescents

    Open Access•Chenyu Hou, Chia-Hui Hou et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Transgender adolescents showed significantly poorer mental health than cisgender adolescents. There was a partial mediating effect of self-efficacy between gender identity and adolescent depression, with family functioning moderating the latter half of this mediation effect. This study advances our understanding of the relationship between depression and self-efficacy or family functioning in adolescents of different gender identities

  • Data, datafication and data citizenship

Open Access•Ian Hardy, Gaoxia Zhu et al.•ARTICLE•Teaching and Teacher Education•2025•References: 6

In this article, we draw upon notions of datafication and data citizenship to explore assessment practices in Singapore schools. Interviews with teachers, principals and students illustrated how they were actively involved in a much more ‘educative’ form of engagement with data, characterized by efforts to ameliorate consequential negative effects of testing, even as meritocratic tendencies challenged such efforts. The research highlights the ben…
