Bridging Worlds
Transitioning from a K-12 teacher to a teacher educator involves a significant transformation in professional identity, characterized by intellectual, pedagogical, and cultural challenges. This self-study explores the first author’s journey as an international graduate student transitioning from teacher to mathematics teacher educator in the United States. In this study, I investigate how my identity developed through reflective experiences, chal…
Examining Mathematics and Science Teacher Educators’ Experiences with Digital Simulations Designed to Support Pre-Service Teachers’ Facilitation of Argumentation-Focused Discussions
This study investigates the experiences of five elementary mathematics and science teacher educators as they engage pre-service teachers in facilitating argumentation-focused discussions through a series of digital simulations. The research responds to the call for more explicit documentation and sharing of the evolving practices of teacher educators (TEs), particularly those leveraging innovative digital tools in teacher education. Utilizing a f…
Cultivating mathematical thinking through home-based engineering tasks
While school mathematics is valuable, it often limits authentic problem-solving, adaptable thinking, and curiosity-driven exploration. In contrast, home environments offer opportunities to engage children in informal, everyday mathematics that connects to their cultural and lived experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine how seven families engaged in humanistic approaches to mathematics within home-based engineering tasks. We utilized…
Examining the Role of Rehearsals in Preservice Teachers’ Mathematics-Related Teaching Identity Development
This study explores the development of elementary preservice teachers’ (PSTs’) mathematics-related teacher identity through participation in rehearsals as a practice-based pedagogical tool. Data were collected from two cohorts of PSTs: one cohort engaged in rehearsals, and the other did not. Using a single-item identity measure, we quantitatively analyzed shifts in PSTs’ identities and qualitatively examined the reasons underlying these shifts. F…

Indian Parents’ Perceptions of Children’s Psychological Wellbeing and Academic Learning during Covid-19
Indian children experienced large-scale disruption in educational, psychological, and social welfare access when schools abruptly closed due to COVID-19. In addition to education, the Indian public school system provides services such as meals and benefits related to improving gender parity and indirectly preventing child labor, child marriages, and abuse. Therefore, sustained school closures led to an unfolding disaster in terms of learning loss…
Examining the Relationships between Teacher Self-Disclosure and Emotional and Behavioral Engagement of STEM Undergraduate Research Scholars
Understanding the factors contributing to the persistence and retention of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is among the main issues of concern within STEM post-secondary education. The literature suggests that teacher self-disclosure and emotional and behavioral engagement play a significant positive role in the learning process across disciplines. Such factors may lead to improved academic achievements and re…
“Fold the Eggs … Fold the Eggs … ”
As the world experienced the COVID-19 outbreak, education was one of the multiple systems that were hit hard. We explored the consequences of the reconfiguration of schooling based on the experiences of the educational stakeholders caught up in the sudden transition to virtual schooling during COVID-19. Using Bronfenbrenner’s (1976) Ecological Systems framework, we underscored the complexity of the individual’s socio-cultural world and the myriad…
