  • Conceptualizing Student Experiences of Psychological Safety in Simulation: A Grounded Theory Study

Carol T Kostovich, Lee A Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Nursing Education•2024

Background: Simulation-based learning activities have become more prevalent in prelicensure nursing curricula. When following the Simulation Standards of Best Practice, optimal learning conditions can be achieved, including the creation of a psychologically safe learning environment. Yet, the process of how students come to feel psychologically safe during a simulation experience remains unknown. Method: A grounded theory approach was used to con…

  • Development and testing of the Hogan Inventory of Bereavement short form for children and adolescents

    Nancy S Hogan, Lee A Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2019•Cited by: 3•References: 9

To reduce response burden for bereaved children and adolescents, we provide data on the development and psychometric testing of a short form of the Hogan Sibling Inventory of Bereavement (HSIB). The resulting measure of grief symptoms and personal growth was renamed the Hogan Inventory of Bereavement - Short Form (Children and Adolescents; HIB-SF-CA). Psychometric properties were evaluated in a sample of 86 bereaved siblings. Instrument developme…

  • An Empirical Study of the Proposed Complicated Grief Disorder Criteria

Open Access•Nancy S Hogan, J William Worden et al.•ARTICLE•OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying•2004

Diagnostic criteria for complicated grief have been proposed as a pathological disorder for inclusion into the next edition of the DSM. However, to date, little empirical testing of the criteria to support or refute the diagnostic claims has been completed. Since the original criteria were developed based on work with widows and widowers, further testing with other bereft groups is needed before advancing complicated grief to a diagnosis worthy o…

  • Testing the Grief to Personal Growth Model Using Structural Equation Modeling

    Nancy S Hogan, Lee A Schmidt•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2002•Cited by: 8•References: 5

The belief that loss can result in growth has been hypothesized for centuries.Yet, traditional grief theories have viewed grief work as a process of resolving grief and returning to normal. Formal conceptualizations of grief to growth models have been recently delineated by several grief theorists. The Grief to Personal Growth model represents one emergent perspective of the qualitative changes resulting from the loss of a loved one. The model de…
