Voxe
Background: Voxe is a novel, child- and healthcare provider (HCP)-friendly, electronic patient-reported outcome measure (ePROM) platform developed via a user-centric approach to create a digital platform that engages and empowers patients and HCPs. Approach: Iterative rounds of co-design and usability testing guided the rigorous, user-centered development of Voxe. During testing, end users (i.e., patients and HCPs) completed task-based activities…
Implementation of Mental Health Measurement Based Care
Background: Mental health disorders pose serious global health challenges, particularly affecting children and adolescents. Early identification and diagnosis of these disorders alongside access to effective mental health treatments are crucial for improving health outcomes in pediatric populations. Measurement-Based Care (MBC), which involves the systematic, longitudinal, and repeated use of patient-reported outcomes of symptoms and functioning,…
Engaging patients as healthcare partners through the meaningful use of Voxe
Background: As health services shift towards more patient-centred care, the importance of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) is increasingly recognized. PROMs can effectively capture patients’ perspectives and enable meaningful engagement. This research program aims to improve health outcomes for pediatric patients by systematically implementing PROMs into clinical practice. We have targeted methodological and practical decisions needed to…
Advancements in Pediatric Mental Healthcare Through Implementation and Evaluation of Measurement-Based Care in a Hospital Setting
Introduction: Measurement-Based Care (MBC) enlists the use of validated Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), in a systematic and repeated fashion before or during clinical encounters with the aim of informing treatment care decisions. While MBC has shown superior treatment outcomes compared to usual care in physical health conditions, it remains underutilized in pediatric mental healthcare. Recognizing this gap, as part of our hospital-wide…
Implementing Measurement-Based Care (MBC) for Mental Health in a Paediatric Hospital Setting
Introduction: Measurement-Based Care (MBC) is the routine, systematic use of validated measures (e.g., patient-reported outcome measures [PROMs]) before or during clinical encounters to inform treatment decision-making. A large body of evidence, including randomized controlled trials, suggest that MBC outperforms usual care in response to treatment, remission rates, time to response and remission for individuals with depression, anxiety and other…
Patient-reported outcome measures in pediatric solid organ transplantation
This study contributes to current research that supports the use of PROMs in clinical pediatric care and guides their effective implementation into practice. Future directions include the development, usability testing, and evaluation of a proposed electronic PROM platform that will inform future research initiatives
The experiences of physicians, nurses, and social workers providing end-of-life care in a pediatric acute-care hospital
This qualitative study explored the experiences of social workers, nurses, and physicians providing end-of-life care to children in a pediatric acute-care hospital setting. Findings demonstrated that participants experienced both professional and personal impacts of their work and employed various coping strategies under each of these domains. The acute-care setting was found to create unique challenges in providing end-of-life care. Implications…

History, Heritage and Tradition in Contemporary British Politics
In his film, The Attic, Adam Curtis argued that Margaret Thatcher became so deeply attached to a romanticised view of the nation’s past that it undermined her understanding of contemporary reality. History, Heritage and Tradition in Contemporary British Politics makes much the same argument in the opposite way; it details how, since the Thatcher era, party politics has drawn heavily on the rhetoric of the past for purposes that are reductively pr…
Humphrey Jennings and British Documentary Film
Humphrey Jennings is an attractive figure for historians of inter-war Britain and the Second World War. Mass Observer, Surrealist, patriot, historian, and maker of exquisitely observed documentary films, he appears (perhaps too neatly) to channel the complex artistic, cultural, and political sensibilities of the 1930s generation. The everyday sinew and contradictions of life in modern Britain, which Orwell pinpointed in prose, Jennings captured o…
Introduction
The emergence of the British documentary film movement marked a seminal moment, not only in the history of film, but also in modern British history. As well as providing Britain with its first self-consciously national cinema, the story of the documentary film movement illustrates some of the hardier debates in the historiography of twentieth-century Britain, including new developments in the conceptualization of citizenship, the growth of mass c…
