Experiential Andragogy Within a Supervision‐Focused Doctoral Internship
This collaborative autoethnography (CAE) examined how experiential andragogy, intentionally integrated into a doctoral internship course, shaped the development of novice supervisors. Grounded in experiential learning theory, we reflect on our experiences of supervision‐of‐supervision and highlight the value of experiential approaches in strengthening supervisory identity and skill development, while bridging the gap between theory to practice. Self‐Care in Graduate Counseling Students
Self‐care is a critical competency for graduate counseling students (GCS), essential to their wellness and professional functioning. However, intensive academic and clinical demands often impede self‐care engagement, elevating burnout risk. Using the job demands–resources model, this study examined how personal resources, academic environmental demands, and academic environmental resources predict GCS’ engagement in self‐care. Ecological systems …
Do Artificial Intelligence Clients Speak Like Human Clients? Exploring GPT‐4's Content‐Level Performance in Counseling Role‐Play
Traditional role‐playing methods in counselor education, such as peer counseling and actor‐based simulations, enhance trainee competencies but have also created ethical dilemmas. These methods are not cost effective and may not capture and address client diversity. With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), new opportunities have emerged for enhancing training through AI‐driven simulations. This study explores the use of GPT‐4, a large…
Predictors of International College Students' Formal Help‐Seeking Grounded in Andersen's Behavioral Model
Since 2022, international college student (ICS) enrollment in US higher education has increased significantly. Although literature highlights patterns and rates of ICS mental health service utilization, evidence regarding theory‐driven predictors remains limited. Grounded in Andersen's Behavioral Model of Health Service Use (ABMHSU), this study investigated factors predicting formal mental health service utilization among ICSs. The sample include…
Psychological Distress as a Primer for Sexual Risk Taking Among Emerging Adults
Emerging adults experience increased morbidity as a result of psychological distress and risky sexual behavior. This study examines how sexual behaviors (e.g., condom use inconsistency and past year STI history) differ among emerging adults with low, moderate, and high psychological distress. Participants are 251,254 emerging adults attending colleges and universities in the United States who participated in the National College Health Assessment…
