  • Od kamnitega do spletnega portala

Open Access•Mojca Brglez, Veronika Bajt et al.•ARTICLE•Contributions to Contemporary…•2025

This paper presents a system for detecting changes in Slovene word usage, enabling the automatic identification of semantic and other shifts across different time periods. We first introduce the system’s technical design and requirements, the methodology for detecting changes, and the graphical user interface, which ensures a user-friendly experience. We then demonstrate how the system can be implemented on the reference corpus of Slovene, Gigafi…

  • Viewpoint detection on LGBT + reporting using contextual embeddings and qualitative thematic analysis

Open Access•Matej Martinc, Nina Perger et al.•ARTICLE•Bulletin of Sociological…•2025•References: 13

This article presents an interdisciplinary study combining advanced natural language processing techniques by using contextual embeddings and manual thematic analysis. We analyse Slovenian news articles on LGBT + topics, focusing on the differences in the connotation of the word deep, the word whose usage differs the most between mainstream and conservative media groups, according to the system for automatic measuring of usage changes based on co…

  • Framing karstology

    Open Access•Špela Vintar, Matej Martinc•ARTICLE•Terminology International Journal…•2022

We describe the creation of a knowledge base in the field of karstology using the frame-based approach. Apart from providing a new multilingual resource using manually annotated definitions as the source of structured information, the main focus is on exploring text mining methods to identify targeted knowledge structures in specialised corpora. The first stage of this process is the design of a domain model and its implementation in a definition…

  • Supervised and Unsupervised Neural Approaches to Text Readability

    Open Access•Matej Martinc, Senja Pollak et al.•ARTICLE•Computational Linguistics•2021•References: 1

We present a set of novel neural supervised and unsupervised approaches for determining the readability of documents. In the unsupervised setting, we leverage neural language models, whereas in the supervised setting, three different neural classification architectures are tested. We show that the proposed neural unsupervised approach is robust, transferable across languages, and allows adaptation to a specific readability task and data set. By s…

  • Erasmus students’ involvement in quality enhancement of Erasmus+ mobility through digital ethnography and ErasmusShouts

Manja Klemenčič, Martin Žnidaršič et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Higher Education•2017

Erasmus+ is one of the European Union’s flagship programs which supports short-term international student mobility within Europe as one of its primary purposes. Erasmus students are uniquely well placed to compare educational processes of their home and host institutions, the learning environments and student life conditions. They are so far under-utilized resource of information on quality of educational practices and insights on how to improve …
