Barriers and Facilitators to Formal Support for Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence in Rural North America
This scoping review aimed to summarize the perspectives of survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) seeking help in rural North America. Using five databases (CINAHL Plus with Full Text, Criminal Justice Abstracts and Full Text, Medline, PsycINFO, SocINDEX), 14 peer-reviewed empirical articles published in English from 2015 to April 2025 were identified. Included articles captured more barriers (e.g., concerns about privacy in rural communiti…
Predictors of Coping in Caregivers of Transition-Aged Autistic Youth
Predictors of caregiver coping have rarely been explored in caregivers of autistic youth. In a final sample of 172 caregivers of transition-age autistic youth (age = 16–30 years), living in the Midwest United States, predictors were regressed on two coping subscales, capturing adaptive and maladaptive coping. Regression models indicated that caregiver adaptive coping was predicted by positive appraisal of the caregiving experience. Caregiver mala…
A Scoping Review
Financial exploitation (FE) is among the most commonly reported forms of elder abuse, with older people living with dementia facing a heightened risk due to various vulnerabilities. Given its high prevalence and deleterious impact, limited research has specifically addressed this critical issue, such as the lack of studies examining risk factors and intervention strategies. Guided by the methodological framework of Arksey and O’Malley, this scopi…
Restorative Justice in Cases of Intimate Partner Violence in the United States
Restorative justice (RJ) has been applied to intimate partner violence (IPV) cases, but some question whether RJ is appropriate for IPV. This review is the first to focus on qualitative research on how RJ is interpreted and used in IPV cases in the United States. Six articles met the inclusion criteria. Findings indicated that RJ is used with the criminal legal system (CLS), initiated by the victim, and is not community-oriented. Concerns for vic…
Elder Abuse in Older Adults With Dementia
With the rapid increase in the aging population, more attention has been paid to studying older adults with dementia. Despite the fact that older adults with dementia are more likely to be abused compared to their cognitively intact counterparts, little attention has been paid to abuse within this population. This systematic review, conducted using the PRISMA model, aims to critically examine, evaluate, and synthesize literature on protective fac…
A Systematic Review
Elder abuse is related to numerous adverse health and mental health conditions in older adults and some studies indicated higher rates of elder abuse in ethnic and racial minority populations than non-Hispanic Whites. This current study aims to summarize the risk and protective factors associated with elder abuse in community-dwelling racial minorities. A systematic review was conducted following Preferred reporting items for systematic review an…
