    Meredith E Bagwell-Gray, Meredith Bagwell-Gray et al.•ARTICLE•Women & Criminal Justice•2025

This research describes women’s engagement with the civil legal system as a safety strategy when experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV). Using cross-sectional survey methods, we recruited women experiencing IPV in relationships with men (N…

    Open Access•Hsiu-Fen Lin, Alesha Durfee et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Criminology•2025•References: 8

Advocates support diverse survivors through complex legal systems; this study explores their ( n = 20) perspectives on structural barriers in obtaining civil protection orders (POs). Findings elicit who struggles to access civil POs, why these…

The sociopolitical crisis in Haiti has resulted in stark increases in gender-based violence (GBV). Our qualitative descriptive study explored GBV experienced by Haitian women along a continuum based on the setting in which GBV occurred: prior to the Haitian humanitarian crisis, during the humanitarian crisis, and upon migration to the USA. Our results highlight gendered sociocultural norms among Haitian women, and how the humanitarian crisis aggr…

  • A Theoretical Model of Reproductive Coercion and Abuse and Legal Entrapment

    Open Access•Kathryn J Spearman, Sonja Ayeb-Karlsson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Violence•2025•References: 3

Purpose This purpose of this article is to encourage the adoption of a theoretical model that centers the ways in which experiences of reproductive coercion and abuse (RCA) intersect with legal entrapment, gendered immobility, and adverse health consequences. This framework integrates disparate bodies of scholarship that have been neglected in prior examinations of RCA in order to provide a heuristic tool for research, practice, and policy. Metho…
