Perceptions about using a patient portal to self-disclose HIV-related information to sexual partners
Patient portals may enhance HIV viral load (VL) disclosure experiences between adolescents and emerging adults living with HIV (AHIV) and their partners. This qualitative inquiry investigated AHIV perspectives on using a patient portal to self-disclose HIV-related information to partners. 16 AHIV aged 13-25 years were recruited at a health center in the United States to participate in audio-recorded virtual in-depth interviews (IDIs). Perceptions of a community-based HIV/STI testing program among Black gay, bisexual, and other MSM in Baltimore
Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) are disproportionately affected by HIV and STIs. Safe Spaces 4 Sexual Health (SS4SH), a community-informed, status-neutral HIV/STI testing intervention combines online outreach via geo-social networking apps and social media with mobile van testing. During 2018-2019, we recruited 25 participants for interviews about their perceptions of SS4SH compared to clinic-based testing. Particip…
Cash Transfers and After-School Programs
We conducted a randomized controlled trial to determine whether an after-school program paired with a cash transfer (a conditional cash transfer) or a cash transfer alone (an unconditional cash transfer) can help improve health and economic outcomes for young men between the ages of 14 and 17 whose parents have low incomes and who live in neighborhoods with high crime rates. We find that receiving the cash transfer alone was associated with an in…
“An ethnographic exploration of factors that drive policing of street-based female sex workers in a U.S. setting - identifying opportunities for intervention”

Despite the importance of policing as a structural health determinant, few studies have sought to understand the factors that underlie and shape harmful policing practices towards …
Barriers and facilitators to retaining a cohort of street-based cisgender female sex workers recruited in Baltimore, Maryland, USA
Retention of street-based female sex workers required the simultaneous use of diverse retention strategies that were tailored to participant characteristics. With familiarity of the dynamic nature of the study population characteristics, resources can be appropriately allocated to strategies most likely to result in successful retention

The Relationship Between Lifetime Abuse and Suicidal Ideation in a Sample of Injection Drug Users
This study examined the relationship between lifetime abuse and suicidal ideation in a sample of 245 injection drug users (IDUs) who attended the Baltimore Needle Exchange Program and received a referral for opiate agonist therapy. Data were obtained from baseline interviews and HIV antibody tests. The sample mean age was 42.2 (SD = 8.1 ); 77% were African American; 69% were male. Overall, 27% reported thoughts of suicide in the last six months, …
