  • Effect of Microplastics on the Growth of Wheat Seedlings in Biochar Remediation of Cd‐Contaminated Soil

Open Access•Fangfang Liang, Chen Su et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The widespread occurrence of microplastics (MPs) in soil and their coexistence with cadmium (Cd) represent an emerging environmental hazard. Biochar (BC) has been widely recognized as an effective soil amendment for Cd remediation; however, it remains unclear whether the presence of MPs influences the efficacy of BC in promoting plant growth in Cd‐contaminated soils. In this study, a pot experiment was conducted to examine the effects of biodegra…

  • The Effect of Different Aging Methods on the Heavy Metal Adsorption Capacity of Microplastics

Open Access•Ying Liu, Chen Su et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2025

Microplastic (MP) pollution has emerged as a global concern. MPs undergo aging in the environment, which includes light‐induced and temperature‐induced degradation. Existing studies on MP aging predominantly focus on UV‐induced and high‐temperature aging. This experiment addresses the issue of the combined pollution of MPs and heavy metals in the environment, nonbiodegradable polystyrene (PS) MPs and utilizing biodegradable polylactic acid (PLA) …

  • Rethinking older adults’ autonomy in Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days

    Open Access•Chen Su, Su Chen•ARTICLE•Educational Gerontology•2025

This article reevaluates the theme of aging and autonomy in Samuel Beckett’s play Happy Days, focusing on the character Winnie’s experiences to challenge conventional paradigms of aging. It explores how Winnie’s experiences, monologues, and interactions with the world resonate with gerontologist perspectives of autonomy in old age, which significantly emphasizes dignity, authenticity, and interdependence rather than freedom and independence of tr…

  • Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction alleviates lipopolysaccharide-induced pneumonia by inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation via AMPK/mTOR/ULK1-mediated autophagy

Open Access•Chen Su, Su Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Ethnopharmacology•2025

MXSG activates the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway, promoting autophagy and inhibiting excessive NLRP3 inflammasome activation induced by LPS. This subsequently reduces inflammatory cytokine (IL-1β, IL-18) levels, thereby mitigating LPS-triggered lung inflammation. The primary active compounds of MXSG that promote autophagy are amygdalin, licoricesaponin G2, and daidzein. These findings offer fresh perspectives on how MXSG mitigates pneumonia, highlightin…

  • Radio dramatization of aging in Harold Pinter's A Slight Ache

    Open Access•Chen Su, Su Chen•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging Studies•2024•References: 3

This article examines Harold Pinter's 1959 radio play A Slight Ache through the lens of aging. It argues that Pinter utilizes sound-based techniques to heighten the introspective crisis of aging experienced by the protagonist Edward. The matchseller in the play serves as an auditory doppelgänger, representing Edward's unresolved conflict between his youthful self-image and his aging body, a struggle that drives the play's psychological depth. Mor…

  • Salivary miRNA Expression in Children With Persistent Post-concussive Symptoms

Open Access•Katherine E Miller, James Macdonald et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2022

Background: Up to one-third of concussed children develop persistent post-concussive symptoms (PPCS). The identification of biomarkers such as salivary miRNAs that detect concussed children at increased risk of PPCS has received growing attention in recent years. However, whether and how salivary miRNA expression levels differ over time between concussed children with and without PPCS is unknown. Aim: To identify salivary MicroRNAs (miRNAs) whose…

  • The Effects of Consistency among Simultaneous Forecasts on Weather-Related Decisions

Chen Su, Su Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Weather, Climate, and Society•2021

People access weather forecasts from multiple sources [mobile telephone applications (“apps”), newspapers, and television] that are not always in agreement for a particular weather event. The experiment reported here investigated the effects of inconsistency among forecasts on user trust, weather-related decisions, and confidence in user decisions. In a computerized task, participants made school-closure decisions on the basis of snow forecasts f…

  • Intensified Oral Hygiene Care in Stroke-Associated Pneumonia

Open Access•Yuan Dong, Dong Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•INQUIRY The Journal of Health…•2020

In this pilot, single-blind, randomized controlled trial, we investigated the effects of intensified oral hygiene care (IOHC) on reducing stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) incidence. Patients admitted within 24 hours of stroke onset were recruited and randomized to receive IOHC or routine oral hygiene care. The occurrence of SAP was checked and oral swabs were obtained during the 7-day follow-up. The SAP incidence was lower, though not significan…

  • Employee Participation and Collective Bargaining in Europe and China

Open Access•Su Chen, Jürgen Basedow et al.•BOOK•Employee Participation and…•2016

Collective labour law is, for the most part, national law. It is often the result of social struggle and political compromise occurring in the national context. Unlike other fields of private law, it has not been the object of legal harmonisation, at either international or European levels. However, as national frontiers progressively open up for goods and services, collective labour law has become increasingly exposed to international and supran…
