  • The development and validation of the child self-criticism scale (CSCS)

Open Access•Hajra Ashra, Christopher Barnes et al.•ARTICLE•Current Psychology•2025

Social and competitive environmental pressures, combined with changes in self-identity, make self-criticism especially problematic in the identity-forming phase of childhood. Yet, no robust measure of self-criticism exists for use with child populations. Here, via two studies, we present the development of the first psychometrically robust measure of self-criticism for children aged seven to 11 years: the Child Self-Criticism Scale (CSCS). In stu…

  • Robust intuition? Exploring the difference in the strength of intuitions from perspective of attentional bias

    Open Access•Yunhong Wang, Wei Bao et al.•ARTICLE•Thinking & Reasoning•2024

The logical intuition hypothesis proposes a difference in the strength between logical and heuristic intuitions. The labels of logical and heuristic intuitions are exclusive to conventional reasoning research. This paper reports the result of testing intuition strength using the dot-probe methodology in a novel multiplication paradigm. Here, “logical intuition” and “heuristic intuition” were relabeled as “weaker intuition” (-1 × 5 = 5) and “stron…

  • A replication and development of the Short Cognitive Mediation Beliefs Questionnaire (CMBQ-S)

Open Access•Martin J Turner, Kátia Correa Vione et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2024

The Cognitive Mediation Beliefs Questionnaire is a 15-item tool that assesses individuals' emotion beliefs about the cognitive mediation of emotions. It measures two emotion beliefs: stimulus-response generation beliefs and cognitive mediation change beliefs. This study aimed to reduce the number of items and test the validity of a briefer version of the Cognitive Mediation Beliefs Questionnaire. We combined data from 13 unpublished data sets col…

  • Exploring the Reliability and Validity of the Huntington’s Disease Quality of Life Battery for Carers (HDQoL-C) within A Polish Population

Open Access•Agnieszka Bartoszek, Aimée Aubeeluck et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Huntington's disease (HD) is a rare genetic neurodegenerative disorder that causes motor disorders, neuropsychiatric symptoms and a progressing deterioration of cognitive functions. Complex issues resulting from the hereditary nature of HD, the complexity of symptoms and the concealed onset of the disease have a great impact on the quality of life of family carers. The caregivers are called the "forgotten people" in HD, especially with relation t…

  • The impact of pop-up warning messages of losses on expenditure in a simulated game of online roulette: A pilot study

Open Access•Paul McGivern, Paul R McGivern et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2019

Expenditure-specific warning messages exhibit potential for ameliorating potentially harmful gambling behaviour. Expenditure-specific messages should be tested in a broader range of gambling contexts to examine their generalizability and potential for implementation in the gambling industry

  • Academics' understandings of the authorial academic writer: A Qualitative Analysis of Authorial Identity

Kevin Yet Fong Cheung, James Elander et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Higher Education•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 29

Research on authorial identity has focused almost exclusively on the attitudes and beliefs of students. This paper explores how academics understand authorial identity in higher education. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with professional academics and analysed using thematic analysis, identifying themes at two levels. At the semantic level was a main theme called ‘the authorial writer’, with five subthemes: ‘authorial confidence’, ‘val…

  • Development and validation of the Student Attitudes and Beliefs about Authorship Scale: A Psychometrically Robust Measure of Authorial Identity

Kevin Yet Fong Cheung, Edward J N Stupple et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Higher Education•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 30

One approach to plagiarism prevention focuses on improving students' authorial identity, but work in this area depends on robust measures. This paper presents the development of a psychometrically robust measure of authorial identity – the Student Attitudes and Beliefs about Authorship Scale. In the item generation phase, a pool of items was developed and assessed for content validity by subject matter experts. In the exploratory phase, data from…

  • Stress and Risky Decision Making: Cognitive Reflection, Emotional Learning or Both

    Open Access•Boban Simonovic, Edward J N Stupple et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•2016•Cited by: 3

Stressful situations hinder judgement. Effects of stress induced by anticipated public speaking on the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) were examined. The Cognitive Reflection Test (CRT) was used to examine the relationship between reflective thinking and IGT performance. The stress manipulation increased blood pressure and was associated with poorer IGT and CRT performance. Stressed participants were slower to avoid the disadvantageous decks. Moreover, …

  • Further evidence of reliability and validity of the Huntington’s disease quality of life battery for carers: Italian and French translations

Open Access•Aimée Aubeeluck, J Dorey et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2012

  • All the burden on all the carers’: Exploring quality of life with family caregivers of Huntington’s disease patients
