  • Research on the interactive mechanism of english-based internet slang and Chinese-origin hybrid symbols based on acculturation theory

    Open Access•Lan Huang•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

  • Becoming a ‘good birder’

    Open Access•Lan Huang, Brian J Gareau•ARTICLE•Environmental Sociology•2026

This paper develops the concept of the ‘good birder’ to analyze how identities and norms are constructed in the contemporary environmental practice of birding. Building on ‘good farmer’ scholarship, we argue that birdwatching (or ‘birding’) provides a parallel site where legitimacy hinges on ecological stewardship, ethical conduct, and social recognition. Drawing on the first author’s ethnographic participant observation, conducted both online an…

  • Implementing and evaluating a seminar-case learning model in postgraduate orthodontic education

    Open Access•Yuanyuan Yin, Y H Yin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Medical Education•2026

BACKGROUND: Postgraduate orthodontic education in China predominantly relies on traditional lecture-based learning and clinical apprenticeships, which often fail to adequately foster clinical reasoning, student engagement, and interactive learning. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and perceived value of a novel seminar-case learning (SCL) model, which integrates the interactive dynamics of seminars with the clinical relevance of case-…

  • Melting consent

    Open Access•Josh Seim, Alexa Damaska et al.•ARTICLE•Critical Sociology•2025•References: 6

Michael Burawoy’s Manufacturing Consent remains foundational to labor process theory, but its analysis is rooted in the era of monopoly capitalism. This article extends Burawoy’s framework by examining platform-based food delivery work through an extended case study of DoorDash and Instacart in Greater Boston. We put Burawoy in conversation with Zygmunt Bauman to contrast labor processes under “solid modernity” marked by relative stability with t…

    Open Access•Lan Huang, Anwar Hammad Al-Rashidi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Psychology•2024

Teacher support encompasses the provision of educational, instrumental, sentimental, or evaluative assistance by a teacher to a student, regardless of the setting. Learning a new language brings with it different ups and downs that may hinder the actual progress of the learners. The journey of learning may be made easier by supportive instructors. During the course of this inquiry, two groups (85 participants in total) including the experimental …

  • On the Reliability and Validity of a Numerical Reasoning Speed Dimension Derived From Response Times Collected in Computerized Testing

Open Access•Mark L Davison, Robert Semmes et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2012

Data from 181 college students were used to assess whether math reasoning item response times in computerized testing can provide valid and reliable measures of a speed dimension. The alternate forms reliability of the speed dimension was .85. A two-dimensional structural equation model suggests that the speed dimension is related to the accuracy of speeded responses. Speed factor scores were significantly correlated with performance on the ACT m…
