The Use of Partial Least Squares–Path Modelling to Understand the Impact of Ambivalent Sexism on Violence-Justification among Adolescents
Gender violence is generally conceived as a phenomenon concerning only adults. Nonetheless, it is also perpetrated within teenagers' relationships, as many empirical studies have shown. We therefore have focused our attention on a non-probabilistic sample consisting of 400 adolescents living in Naples (Italy), to study the association between sexism and the justification of violent attitudes. Generally, sexism is recognised as a discriminatory at…
The construction of icons as a means of access to the social representation of culture
The purpose of this study is to identify the structural elements—and their interrelations—of social representations of culture, circulating among university students. This approach has been employed by many researchers to provide a first level of exploration in terms of descriptions, evaluations, information, and prototypes related to the object of representation. The aim is also to explore if these social representations are different, starting …
Sex-Role Orientations and Control Orientations of Southern Italian and West German University Students
The hypothesis was tested that generalized self-related cognitions concerning sex-role orientations and locus of control beliefs are more strongly associated with cultural membership than with morphophenotype sex. In addition, it was expected that differences in generalized locus of control orientations between the morphophenotype sexes can be duplicated by psychological sex-role orientation variables. Questionnaire data on normative sex-role ori…

On the Relationship between Machiavellianism and Anxiety among Italian Undergraduates
139 Italian undergraduates (61 men and 78 women) responded to the Italian version of the Christie's Mach IV scale and to the Italian version of the Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. Positive correlations between Mach IV scores and both State Anxiety and Trait Anxiety scores were found for both sexes. The authors hypothesized that moderate anxiety may be associated with high Machiavellianism. Further implications of the findings were di…
Sex-Role Identity and Machiavellianism
177 Italian undergraduates (83 men and 94 women) completed the Italian version of the Spence, et al.'s Personal Attributes Questionnaire and the Italian version of the Christie's Mach IV Scale. One-way analysis of variance indicated for men that undifferentiated individuals reported significantly higher Mach scores. For women, feminine sex-typed individuals reported higher Mach scores. Low masculinity might be associated with stronger Machiavelli…
Relationship between Machiavellianism and External Control among Italian Undergraduates
148 Italian undergraduates (62 men and 86 women) responded to the Italian version of the Christie's Mach IV scale and to the Italian version of the Rotter's Internal-External (I-E) Control scale. The positive correlation between Machiavellianism and external locus of control of .40 was significant for men as well as for women. The results confirm previous findings that more external individuals tend to agree with Machiavellian positions than do i…
