  • "Improving Care for Patients with Complex Multimorbidity. GPs’ and patients’ experience of a new Care Model (CIM2) in General Practice"

Open Access•Barbara Ann Barrett, Iben Charlotte Aamann et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

Background: Multimorbidity (≧2 chronic conditions) is a growing global health concern challenging the organization of high-quality integrated care. Patients with complex multimorbidity (CMM), i.e. a combination of multiple chronic conditions, polypharmacy, and low socio-economic status (SES), require a comprehensive, patient-centered approach to care management. The organization of healthcare services for this patient population remains a critica…

  • Self-care and social class

Open Access•Iben Charlotte Aamann, Sanne Lykke Lundstrøm et al.•ARTICLE•Health An Interdisciplinary…•2025

This article explores the implications of social class for healthcare access and self-care practices among patients with complex multimorbidity in Denmark. Despite universal health coverage, socioeconomic disparities persist in healthcare access. We analyze qualitative data stemming from a summative evaluation of a complex intervention to improve integrated care for these patients, which included extended consultations in general practice. Using …

  • Am I that bad?’

    Open Access•Iben Charlotte Aamann, Mikala Erlik•ARTICLE•Children & Society•2023

The purpose of this article is to explore how parents of children with higher weights are represented in policy documents constituted by health authorities in the Danish welfare state. It focuses on how discourses of moral judgements might play a role in child rearing, by framing child obesity as a parental problem in health professionals' practical guidelines. The article is based on a discursive analysis of cases from three guidelines published…

  • Inequity in palliative care

    Open Access•Iben Charlotte Aamann, Betina Dybbroe•ARTICLE•Social Theory & Health•2023•References: 20

The purpose of this article is to explore social inequity in palliative care in Denmark, a country that is seen as a stronghold of universal health care. Using data stemming from 2 years of research, we have selected two cases for analysis. They consist of palliative conversations with two quite different patients. Drawing on sociocultural class theory, we find that the conversations involve social exclusion processes due to discourses of active …

  • Neoliberalism, healthism and moral judgements

    Iben Charlotte Aamann•ARTICLE•Journal of Psychosocial Studies•2020•Cited by: 3•References: 17

This article explores how a psychosocial approach to class can shed light on the ways in which neoliberal governmentality works through moral judgements and how different emotions within a ‘regime of judgements’ are rooted in class relations. First, I look at sociological arguments about health in terms of the risk logic of healthism and theories about the neoliberal imperative of moral value display in order to build a theoretical framework on a…

  • ‘So under “cause for concern”, I’ll write that…’ class, parenting and risk prevention in public health practices in schools

Iben Charlotte Aamann, Betina Dybbroe•ARTICLE•Health Risk & Society•2018

This article explores how risk, moralisation and class intertwine in prevention work targeting parents. The analysis is based on an ethnographic study at three Danish schools, from which two exemplary cases have been selected, consisting of observations of two introductory consultations between families and school health nurses. We focus on how the professional assesses whether a family is at risk. The outcome of the consultations is distinctly d…

  • Class, Mothering and the Values of Food

    Open Access•Iben Charlotte Aamann•ARTICLE•Kvinder Køn & Forskning•2017

Class, Mothering and the Values of Food:The data analysed in this empirical paper stems from ethnographic fieldwork among new school parents at three Danish primary schools. I draw on empirically grounded theories on the cultural and subjective dimensions of class, inspired by the ‘English School’ of poststructuralist informed, feminist scholars, to explore how class matters. Using the values ascribed to food at social arrangements as a lens, I e…
