This article is devoted to the urban space of Pontic Olbia – to the growth of its territory, and the emergence of its early defensive system consisting of earthworks with moats, which had surrounded the city as early as the Late Archaic period. Alla Buiskikh, Алла Буйских et al.•ARTICLE•Ancient Civilizations from…•2022•References: 3

Three Etruscan bucchero kantharoi have recently been found in the North Pontic settlements at modern-day Berezan island (ancient Borysthenes), and Taganrog (ancient Kremnoi), both Milesian foundations of the 7th century BC . Both centres yielded several vessels of Greek pottery dated from the early 7th century onwards. As the only finds of Etruscan bucchero in the Northern Black Sea area, the kantharoi are noteworthy. The article covers the background to the creation of a generalized Register of immovable architectural and archaeological sites excavated in Olbia for more than a hundred years. Sporadic work aimed at repairing and partial preservation of individual structures since the early 1980-ies acquired a relatively regular nature and created the necessary base for systematic measures of the museumification of archaeological sites. The need to protect and …

  • A Sub-Geometric Skyphos from Borysthenes

    Алла Буйских, Alla V Buĭskikh•ARTICLE•Ancient Civilizations from…•2016•References: 1

In the Borysthenes collection a fragment of Sub-Geometric skyphos has come to light, which is most likely to have been manufactured in Miletus. The shape of the vessel and the stylistic features of its painted decoration enable us to date it to the second quarter of the 7th century bc . This skyphos , like other vessels in the Sub-Geometric style from barbarian sites in the North Pontic region, was taken there by colonists, who had founded the ea…

Alla Buiskikh, Алла Буйских•ARTICLE•Ancient Civilizations from…•2007

This article is devoted to the publication of two Sofa-capitals from Chersonesos, to their stylistic analysis and date.
