Beyond Bibracte/Mont Beuvray
This paper presents a compositional study of red enamels applied to metal artefacts from Central Europe, spanning the La Tène period (4th − 1st centuries BCE) to the Roman period (1st − 3rd centuries AD). The dataset comprises 107 enamel samples from Bohemia, Moravia, south-western Slovakia, Lower Austria and Styria, complemented by reference material (11 samples) from the oppidum of Bibracte/Mont Beuvray (France), the only site in Europe with di…
Geophysical prospection as a tool for the study of urbanism at the La Téne oppidum Bibracte
A multidisciplinary approach to the study of space organisation at Bibracte, Significant contribution of geophysical survey to the study of oppida
The potential of low-destructive characterization of archaeological sites with stony and eroded soils through geostatistics at the Celtic oppidum of Bibracte (France)
New method merges stats with geo records to pinpoint activity zones in Bibracte. • Finds more human activity in south Bibracte, like La Chaume. • Despite data issues, analysis links geochemical data to human activity. • High magnetic, phosphorus, and calcium levels in south hint at intense past activities. • Combines methods for deep insights into Bibracte, aiding future archaeological research. Urbanization during Europe's Late Iron Age brought …
Land cover and use-history of large empty spaces at fortified Iron Age hilltop sites; a case study from La Terrasse, Bibracte oppidum
The research of Iron Age oppida and hillforts plays a significant role in understanding the urbanisation processes throughout the European continent. The habitation and built-up areas have always been in the limelight of both traditional and environmental archaeological research. However, at many oppida, there were also large, unoccupied empty spaces. As they are crucial for understanding these settlements’ internal organisation, their functions …
Landscape evolution around the oppidum of Bibracte (Northern Massif Central, France) from the Late Iron Age to the Post-Mediaeval period
New metal and glass finds from the Late Iron Age in South Moravia (CZ). The contribution of citizen science to knowledge of the La Tene settlement structure in the Břeclav Region
The ‘Celts Beneath the Pálava Hills’ exhibition was installed at the end of the summer of 2020 at the Regional Museum in Mikulov. The museum prepared the exhibition in cooperation with the Moravian Museum and the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno. Along with other unique exhibits, an assemblage of 70 metal artefacts stored in Dolní Dunajovice in the study collection of the Research Centre for the Roman and Great Migr…
Doklady hutnické výroby z doby železné v Olomouci-Neředíně
K málo prozkoumaným výrobním odvětvím v protohistorii Moravy patří činnosti spojené s hutněním železa. V Olomouci-Neředíně bylo spolu s časně laténskou keramikou nalezeno více než 80 kg strusek, úlomky rud a velké množství tepelně postižené hlíny. Ani v jednom případě se ale nepodařilo spojit jejich výskyt s výrobním zařízením. Hutněna byla především ruda typu Lahn-Dill, která musela být transportována ze vzdálenosti 20–25 km. Radiokarbonová data…
