Unraveling the role of green innovation, renewable resources, and urban concentration on green and sustainable growth in India
Purpose The main objective of the present study is to examine the role of green innovation, green resources, and urban concentration in green and sustainable growth in India. Design/methodology/approach This study uses econometric methods robust to unit root analysis, such as ADF and DF-GLS, and the ARDL bounds test approach to analyze the long-run and short-run relationship between the selected time-series variables for India from 1993 to 2021. …
Analysing the Impacts of Climate Shocks and Economic Growth in the Asian Region
The primary aim of this study is to rigorously explore the dynamic relationship between climate-related shocks and real per capita GDP growth across 43 Asian economies from 1994 to 2023. This research decisively examines the connections between climatic shocks and economic growth, utilizing critical factors such as money supply, government capital formation and inflation as control variables. By employing the Hamilton filter to extract climatic s…
Modelling the nexus between green energy, agricultural production, forest cover, and population growth towards climate change for the transition towards a green economy
Examining the tourism-induced environmental Kuznets curve hypothesis for India
Energy Poverty and Human Development
This study attempts to establish the linkage between human development and energy poverty for rural households and evaluate the impact of government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, free electricity and unemployment allowance on human development. For the analysis purpose, primary data have been collected from rural areas of two main districts of the Shekhawati region of the state of Rajasthan in India. To pursue the objectives, two…
Does ICT diffusion reduce poverty? Evidence from Saarc countries
The present study aims to explore the relationship between ICT diffusion and poverty reduction in SAARC countries using panel data from 2005 to 2020. This study uses econometric techniques robust to cross‐sectional dependence (CSD) including Pesaran's CSD tests; second‐generation unit root test; Pedroni, Kao, Westerlund cointegration tests; CS‐ARDL, Driscoll‐Kraay (DK) standard error approach; and D&H causality test. The investigation is based on…
Do Trade Openness and Output Gap Affect Inflation? Empirical Evidence from BRICS Nations
The recent economic disturbances such as the outbreak of coronavirus, the Russia–Ukraine war, and disrupted supply chains, have resulted in high inflationary shocks that are difficult to combat. The most vulnerable to these global shocks are developing countries where trade is a crucial factor in economic growth. In this context, the study aims to investigate the impact of trade openness and output gap on inflation in BRICS countries from 1999Q1 …
The Economic Growth–Income Inequality–Poverty Nexus and Its Impact on Environmental Degradation
This study attempts to examine the main forces affecting short-run and long-run carbon emission patterns due to changes in economic growth, income inequality and poverty in India over the period 1982–2018. For this purpose, it uses the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) cointegration technique and the vector error correction model (VECM) based on Granger causality tests. The stationary properties of the variables are checked using the Ng–Perro…
Dynamics of poverty and its determinants in rural India
This study examined the determinants of unidimensional and multidimensional poverty among the farm households of rural India, using the data of India Human Development Surveys conducted in 2004–2005 and 2011–2012. We found a significant reduction in poverty among these households over this period. However, this reduction was not uniform across different sub‐groups of the farm households. Our findings confirm that the important factors of poverty …
The impact of trade openness on urbanization
The present study investigates the impact of trade openness on urbanization in BRICS countries, covering data from 1991 to 2017. The study uses instrument variable approach and two‐system least square method for the empirical analysis. Based on the empirical results, the study confirms the positive and significant link between trade openness and urbanization as per the New Growth Theory. The results show that the cities having more access to glob…
How Farm Household Spends Their Non-farm Incomes in Rural India? Evidence from Longitudinal Data
ICT diffusion, financial development, and economic growth
This study examines the interrelation of ICT diffusion and financial development with economic growth in SAARC economies, by employing data for the time period 2000–2017. The empirical analysis is carried out using granger causality and cointegration techniques. First generation panel unit root tests namely LLC, IPS, ADF, and PP test were employed for this purpose. All the variables were found to be integrated of order one at first difference. Pe…
