  • How Child and Partnership Characteristics Influence Paternal Involvement

Open Access•Thomas Eichhorn, Claudia Zerle-Elsäßer•ARTICLE•Journal of Family Issues•2026

Coming from a family system theoretical perspective we asked to what extent selected child characteristics (age and gender of the child, position in the sibling order, biological/non-biological child, child health status) influence paternal involvement. Additionally, spillover effects in the mother’s commitment and the father’s partnership satisfaction were of interest. Cross-sectional survey data from the “Growing up in Germany” survey from 2019…

  • Does the (socio-political) socialization context matter for paternal involvement

Open Access•Thomas Eichhorn, Claudia Zerle-Elsäßer•ARTICLE•Journal of European Social Policy•2024•References: 7

Previous literature on paternal involvement emphasizes the influence of fathers’ socialization contexts, considering either welfare policies (Hipp and Leuze, 2015) or experiences with their own fathers (Brown et al., 2018; Parke, 1995). In this study, we combine those two branches of research and examine how fathers’ and their fathers’ (grandfathers’) socialization experiences (parental leave regulations in their early adulthood as an example of …

  • Family Climate in Pandemic Times

    Open Access•Thomas Eichhorn, Simone Schüller et al.•ARTICLE•Social Inclusion•2023•References: 11

In this article, we examine changes in family climate during the first Covid‐19‐related lockdown in Germany. We compare the perspectives of mothers and adolescents to explore whether the factors of perceived changes in family climate are systematically and significantly different between these groups. We measure family climate as positive emotional climate, a sub‐dimension of the family environment scale, to capture a feeling of cohesion and emot…

  • “Doing gender” by sharing

Open Access•Thomas Eichhorn, Christian Pieter Hoffmann et al.•ARTICLE•Internet Policy Review•2022

In this study, based on survey data collected from twelve European countries (N=6111), we build on the digital technology access model to examine the role of gender in access to the sharing economy. Applying a "doing gender" perspective, we find that men capitalise on a stronger economic position and a more pronounced orientation to explore new technology to gain access to sharing services, while women rely more on cultural and social capital. We…

  • Dimensions of digital inequality in the sharing economy

Thomas Eichhorn, Sebastian Jürss et al.•ARTICLE•Information Communication & Society•2022

Sharing economy platforms have grown to offer various commercial opportunities to a growing but still limited user base. We conceptualize engagement in the sharing economy as a form of online participation, and apply a digital inequalities perspective to examine the social stratification of commercial sharing. Based on the Internet access model established by Van Dijk, we analyze the effects of social structural antecedents on various access stag…

  • Global surgery in a postconflict setting - 5-year results of implementation in the Russian North Caucasus

Open Access•Fatima I Lunze, Karsten Lunze et al.•ARTICLE•Global Health Action•2015

BACKGROUND: Collaborations for global surgery face many challenges to achieve fair and safe patient care and to build sustainable capacity. The 2004 terrorist attack on a school in Beslan in North Ossetia in the Russian North Caucasus left many victims with complex otologic barotrauma. In response, we implemented a global surgery partnership between the Vladikavkaz Children's Hospital, international surgical teams, the North Ossetian Health Minis…
