  • Baastrup’s Disease in Pediatric Gymnasts

Open Access•Arsalan A Ali, Benjamin Jacobs et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2022

Baastrup's disease is a rare, often misdiagnosed, and causes back pain in children. It is characterized by degenerative changes of both spinous processes and interspinous soft tissues between two adjacent vertebrae. Repetitive spinal movements in the sagittal plane predispose injury to posterior elements of the spine. Chronic flexion and extension strain the interspinous ligament, causing the neighboring spinous processes to adjoin. Patients typi…

  • Multiple rock-slope failures from Mannen in Romsdal Valley, western Norway, revealed from Quaternary geological mapping and 10 Be exposure dating

    Open Access•Paula Hilger, Reginald L Hermanns et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Oversteepened valley walls in western Norway have high recurrences of Holocene rock-slope failure activity causing significant risk to communities and infrastructure. Deposits from six to nine catastrophic rock-slope failure (CRSF) events are preserved at the base of the Mannen rock-slope instability in the Romsdal Valley, western Norway. The timing of these CRSF events was determined by terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide dating and relative chronolo…

  • Vitamin D deficiency in pregnancy – still a public health issue

Open Access•Trixie McAree, Benjamin Jacobs et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Nutrition•2012

The objectives of this study were to quantify the prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency in pregnancy, explore associated risk factors and discuss the public health implications. The study used retrospective analysis of randomly selected data. This is the first report on serum vitamin D levels in an unselected multi-ethnic population of pregnant women collected between April 2008 and March 2009. Women with sufficient stored serum we…
