  • Early Critical Thinking in a Mandarin-Speaking Child

Open Access•Xuemei Shao, Ruying Qi et al.•ARTICLE•Education Sciences•2022

Critical thinking in children is a growing concern for early childhood educators; however, few studies have examined children’s critical thinking in an out-of-class context. This case study aimed toward filling this research gap by examining the critical thinking of a Mandarin-speaking child aged 5 years and 8 months in an out-of-class context. The child’s natural utterances produced in free conversation and story-readings have been audio- and vi…

  • A 2000-year temperature reconstruction in the Animaqin Mountains of the Tibet Plateau, China

    Open Access•Feng Chen, Yong Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•References: 2

A 2665-year ring-width chronology was developed based on Qilian juniper from the upper treeline of the Animaqin Mountains on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. Correlation analysis results showed that the chronology was significantly negatively correlated with April–June maximum temperature at nearby meteorological stations, indicating that maximum temperature is the factor that limits tree growth in this area. Accordingly, we reconstructed the average…

  • Continental-scale temperature variability during the past two millennia

    Open Access•Moinuddin Ahmed, PAGES 2k Consortium et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Geoscience•2013

  • Little Ice Age glacier fluctuations reconstructed for the southeastern Tibetan Plateau using tree rings

Open Access•Haifeng Zhu, Peng Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2013

  • A preliminary reconstruction of temperature in the eastern Qaidam Basin, northeaster Tibetan Plateau, China

    Open Access•Xuemei Shao•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • The Potential to Reconstruct Manasi River Streamflow in the Northern Tien Shan Mountains (NW China)

Yujiang Yuan, Xuemei Shao et al.•ARTICLE•Tree-Ring Research•2007

We present a tree-ring based reconstruction of water-year (October–September) streamflow for the Manasi River in the northern Tien Shan mountains in northwestern China. We developed eight Tien Shan spruce (Picea schrenkiana Fisch. et Mey.) chronologies for this purpose, which showed a common climatic signal. The hydroclimatic forcing driving tree growth variability affected streamflow with a three- to four-year lag. The model used to estimate str…

  • Sustainably Managing Montane Forests in Arid Mountain Regions

Zhang Baiping, Baiping Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2002

The Oytag valley, about 100 km west of Kashi (Kashgar), is one of the few valleys with forests in the Kunlun Mountains. It underwent severe forest destruction in the late 1950s, and about only one fourth of the natural forest remains. Since the early 1980s, forest conservation and artificial regeneration have been carried out in the valley
