  • Domestication and microbiome

    Open Access•В И Глазко, Valeriy I Glazko et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2021•References: 3

In this paper we discuss two universal characteristics of domesticated species that distinguish them from the wild closely related ancestors – increased socialization and phenotypic variability. Examining evidence accumulated in the literature up to date, we note that the gut microbiome is involved in the increased social behavior of domesticated species through the gut-immune system-brain axis. We further discuss data that point toward clear dif…

  • Domestication and mobile genetic elements

    Open Access•В И Глазко, Valeriy I Glazko et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2018•References: 1

Domestication has fascinated researchers starting with Charles Darwin who was the first to observe that domestication-related traits are similar across a variety of taxonomically distant domesticated species yet are very different for taxonomically close wild species. The genetic basis of domestication remains to be understood and there are at least three different hypotheses trying to explain the genetic mechanisms underlying domestication pheno…
