  • The relationship between ignimbrite lithofacies and topography in a foothill setting formed on Miocene pyroclastics – a case study from the Bükkalja, Northern Hungary

Open Access•Tamás Bíró, Mátyás Hencz et al.•ARTICLE•Hungarian Geographical Bulletin•2022

Units with extremely variable erodibility are typical in the succession of pyroclastic-dominated volcanic fields. Welded ignimbrites are usually resistant to erosion, thus, they often appear as positive landforms, i.e., mesas or tilted plateaus after millions of years of denudation. The Bükkalja Volcanic Area being part of the most extended foothill area of the North Hungarian Mountains, is composed predominantly of Miocene ignimbrites, where the…

  • Naturalism and Protectionism in the Study of Religions

Juraj Franek, Radek Kundt et al.•BOOK•Naturalism and Protectionism in…•2020

How should we study religion? Must we be religious ourselves to truly understand it? Do we study religion to advance our knowledge, or should the study of religions help to reintroduce the sacred into our increasingly secularized world?

  • Holocene environmental changes as recorded in the geochemistry of glacial lake sediments from Retezat Mountains, South Carpathians

  • Treeline and timberline dynamics on the northern and southern slopes of the Retezat Mountains (Romania) during the late glacial and the Holocene

    Open Access•Ildikó Orbán, Hilary H Birks et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • Age–depth relationship and accumulation rates in four sediment sequences from the Retezat Mts, South Carpathians (Romania)

Open Access•Katalin Hubay, Mihály Molnár et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • Timing of major forest compositional changes and tree expansions in the Retezat Mts during the last 16,000 years

Open Access•ENIKŐ MAGYARI, Ildikó Vincze et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2018

  • Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem responses to early Holocene rapid climate change (RCC) events in the South Carpathian Mountains, Romania

  • Holocene treeline and timberline changes in the South Carpathians (Romania)

    Open Access•Ildikó Vincze, Ildikó Orbán et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 27

Two high-altitude lake-sediment sequences (Lake Lia, 1910 m a.s.l. and Lake Bucura, 2040 m a.s.l.) from the Retezat Mountains (South Carpathians, Romania) were analysed using multi-proxy methods to study responses of treeline, timberline and alpine/subalpine vegetation to climate change and human impact during the past 16,000 years. Woody species ( Pinus mugo, Pinus cembra, Picea abies and Juniperus communis) reached Lake Lia between 12,000 and 1…

  • New aspects of the interpretation of the loess magnetic fabric, Cérna Valley succession, Hungary

    Open Access•Balázs Bradák, Balazs Bradák-Hayashi et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2016

Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) is a frequently applied method in sedimentology, especially in the determination of the orientation of transport processes. We present an analysis of magnetic fabric (MF) studies on loess. New aspects of fabric development reveal: i) The deposition of the aeolian sediments was controlled by gravity, low-energy transport and local geomorphology, hence no clarified wind direction can be defined. ii) The i…
