Hillforts of the Cheshire Ridge
The Habitats and Hillforts of Cheshire's Sandstone Ridge Landscape Partnership Project was focussed on six of Cheshire's hillforts and their surrounding habitats and landscapes. It aimed to develop understanding of the chronology and role of the hillforts and encourage local interest and involvement in their maintenance
Integrating records of explosive and effusive activity from proximal and distal sequences
Characterization of Chert Sources as an Aid to the Identification of Patterns of Trade, Southeast Solomon Islands
Improving the reliability of microprobe-based analyses of andesitic glasses for tephra correlation
Andesite tephras have not been used in tephrostratigraphic studies to the same extent as rhyolitic units because they are seen as being chemically more complex than the latter. They are particularly difficult to `fingerprint' owing to apparent heterogeneity in glass analyses from single andesitic layers. Using case study tephras from two andesite volcanoes in New Zealand, Mts Taranaki and Ruapehu, glass chemical heterogeneity is shown to be due p…
Multiple Sources for Sea-Rafted Loisels Pumice, New Zealand
Sea-rafted Loisels Pumice is one of the few stratigraphic markers used to correlate late Holocene coastal deposits in New Zealand. Along with underlying sea-rafted products of the local Taupo eruption of ca. 1800 yr B.P., these events have been used to bracket the first arrival of humans at New Zealand. Loisels Pumice is dacitic to rhyolitic (SiO 2 63–78 wt%) in composition, but individual clasts are homogeneous (SiO 2 range ± 1 wt%). Characteris…
