  • Rechtsextrem

Open Access•Gideon Botsch, Christoph Kopke et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Rechtsextrem•2023

This volume brings together biographical studies on 24 mainly male protagonists of Federal German right-wing extremism. The biographies presented here provide examples of different generations, social backgrounds, and political orientations in the right-wing extremist milieu. At the same time, they demonstrate how political and social conditions have helped to shape this "special political culture" in Germany.

  • Taking Nativism to the Streets

    Open Access•Gideon Botsch•ARTICLE•Moving the Social•2021

In this article, I give an overview on nativist street protests in Germany from the early nineteenth century to the present from an historical perspective. In a preliminary remark, I will reflect on some recent developments in Germany, where nativist protest campaigns against immigration took place in the streets when voters were turning towards the populist radical right party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD). In the first section, I will outli…

    Open Access•Gideon Botsch, Josef Haverkamp•EDITOR•BOOK•Jugendbewegung, Antisemitismus…•2014

The year 2013 marks the centennial of the first “Free-German Youth Day” that took place on the Meissner massif. Anti-Semitic outbursts erupted at the margins of this historical gathering. In its wake, a right-wing populist faction of the youth movement arose for the first time. This collected volume examines the interface between the youth movement, nationalism, and anti-Semitism

Gideon Botsch, Olaf Glöckner et al.•EDITOR•BOOK•Islamophobie und Antisemitismus -…•2012

Are cartoons of Mohammed today's anti-Semitic postcards? Are the protests against the construction of mosques in German towns comparable with the cries of "Jews out!" during the German Empire? Following a heated public debate, comparisons between present hostility to Islam and traditional forms of anti-Semitism are also occupying political scientists, religious scholars and contemporary historians. Certainly in the future there will also be a nee…

  • From Skinhead-Subculture to Radical Right Movement

    Open Access•Gideon Botsch•ARTICLE•Contemporary European History•2012•Cited by: 10•References: 3

As the regime collapsed in 1989/90, it became clear that an extreme right movement had already developed in East Germany. Its origins and development have been variously interpreted as, first, an outcome of the conditions the GDR, second, a result of the Wende, the great change, and third, an outcome of the unification process. This article integrates all three interpretations. It shows how a heterogeneous, politically diffuse skinhead milieu aro…
