    Imre Nagy is remembered above all as the prime minister of Hungary who remained true to his decisions during the revolution of October‐November 1956. This was a course of action which led, ultimately, to his death on the gallows. This heroic image was only enhanced by the solemn re‐interment of his remains on 16 June 1989, which was symbolic of the recent democratic transformation of Hungary.
