  • Modeling the Creative Milieu of Cosmopolitan Cities

Jane Zheng, Sabrina P Y Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Arts Management…•2024

This research paper gleans insights from significant historical cases to unravel the essence of a ‘creative milieu.’ Our study scrutinizes the factors that shaped artists’ settlement patterns in Shanghai during the Republican era (1912–1948) by constructing both global and local spatial regression models across three pivotal years, thus unveiling seven distinct variable categories. We argue that paramount among these attributes are individual art…

  • ‘Mapping the Most Influential Art Districts in Shanghai (1912-1948) through Clustering Analysis’

Open Access•Jane Zheng, Jie He et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Arts Management…•2022

The outcome is the identification of 11 major art clusters in eight selected year…

  • The Tripods in Daoist Alchemy

    Open Access•Zhen Fan•ARTICLE•Religions•2022

The tripod (ding 鼎) and the nine tripods (jiuding 九鼎) are significant in ancient China, appearing often in Daoist alchemy. However, they have been largely ignored by the scholarship on Daoism. Early Daoist alchemy saw the tripod and the nine tripods as critical elements in the production of immortality, but the outer alchemy (waidan 外丹) gave up refining the outer elixir by tripod due to technical reasons. The tripod was merely mentioned in the el…

  • Exploring Determinants of Population Ageing in Northeast China

Open Access•Ling Yang, Kai Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

The paper aims to examine the population ageing process in northeast China, typically perceived as a region experiencing dramatic demographic change and socio-economic slowdown that is much deeper and more significant compared to other regions. Using the 2000 and 2010 census data at the sub-regional level, the SEM (spatial error model) estimation suggests that at least seven socio-economic factors are associated with the evolution of the ageing p…
